Would a 203 rotor up front and a 180 at the back be overkill? I do like plenty or braking power, I've not had much experience with disks so any thoughts would be good. Should have my heaset turn up soon and some XT goodies :D

I've ordered the 203 for the front, it's cheaper to buy a 203 from wiggle and the 180 from chain reaction for some reason. Continental Speed Kings on their way too 8)

There's one or two Kona Hard tails rattling around bike radar at the minute ;)

Nice stuff. I like a red frame.

My house is being invaded by them! One of thems not mine though, we picked up a Kikapu nine in really good nick for £260! My mate couldn't ride it home though as it's on SPD's though so I have that and the Mrs' Shred (Which used to be mine) Plus my realy old custom build early 90's thing which is going to a mate as soon as the Caldera's finished.
I do love hardtails still, I mean I've never ridden a REALLY good full suspension bike but I can build a wicked hard tail for the price of a medieocre full susser so it's a no brainer for me really.

Hey Paul. Thought I'd give you a quick rhubarb to say I'm finally on bike radar. I've got to have a look at that headset, looks mental.

How much weight do you reckon that'd ditch if I got one of those style bars and stem? That seat post looks wicked too, but I still don't trust carbon fiber : /

Not sure mate, the bars are floaty light though :-) We can weigh them when you pick up the Kikapu if you want on the old kitchen scales. I like the headset, I've always wanted one, I don't care if it's a lot of money I think they look the nuts :-)

I like the way you've framed the photo so the "Love" sign looks like it's attached to the bars.

As a satisfied owner of the standard 2008 bike, i will watch this thread with interest for future upgrading information.

The only thing i would add is that you might want to put the spacers above the stem as it's already quite an upright seating position.

I was going to comment on the 'Love' sign too, perfect. I love the shaddow on the wall from the flash on the same picture too, looks mean! We'll get some action shots soon :)

The love sign was pure coincedence but I'll pretend it was my good photography skills

Thanks for the advice on the spacers, It just got fitted like that by the shop but when I put it next to the current bike with some wheels in as a mock-up the bars were a bit higher, I can also turn the stem upside down if that doesn't do it, I do like it with the bars further down, more XC style than my missus bike which feels like a tractor as the seating position is so high and the bars so wide!

I got a bit confused scanning through the last part of that post after I misread it a bit...

Anyway, this bike is gonna be wicked, I know it's not complete yet but it's nuts how light it is.

A few shots of my old bike, made this god knows how many years ago and it's still just about going (Apart from the fact the shifters have died so it's stuck in this gear!) Mostly Shimano STX RC with an STX chainset, Kalloy Uno finishing gear and ritchey rims and tyres.

And this is the Mrs bike she stle it from me, god knows why she likes riding it so much it weighs a ton but I will steal it back from her for some dirt jump action soon :-) Apologies for the rear brake cable, only fitted the brakes yesterday and it's miles too long at the moment!

That's a nice Shred, no wonder she's riding it. It's in good condition.
And your Caldera will look very nice too.

Thanks, just need to sort out those cables, also for some reason the brakes are the wrong way round, you can't turn the lever over either

Nope, they are the correct way, that's how we ride it overhere. Seriously.

Btw, you don't need to switch the levers to switch the brakes.
Just switch the end of the cables.

EDIT
Hmm they were hydro.
That's one more reason I'll never go to hydro brakes.

Really? Wierd how it's different in different countries, I thought it was road bikes that had them that way round
