The one gripe i have with it is the paint seems very soft it seems to mark very easily.

Tyres will be changed to black at some point rather than red, but the red is growing on me slightly.

Well a few months down the line and I am still really pleased with the Soul, its a lot more forgiving ride than the Hardrock. As a hardtail i think it is very hard to beat for fun factor, would definitely buy one again if I were in the same position.

As mentionned above though my only complaint with it is the soft paint. It marks really easily compared to the spesh. Also i prefer the cable routing on the spesh, under the BB seems to give a much nicer route and i can't get the shifting on this anywhere near as good as the spesh. But thats a minor detail.

There have been a few changes as i've been riding it, the red grips have gone as they were worn out and have been replaced with black, and the panaracers have been replaced with Nobby Nics.

Heres a picture taken today at Sherwood Pines with it looking in an appropriate condition!

Lovely looking Soul mate! Got mine up and running a few weeks ago, and they are such lovely bikes to ride.

Big update time!

Since the above photo there have been many changes!

XT shadow rear derailleur with medium cage
XT front derailleur
conversion to 2x9
Thomson inline seatpost
Thomson 90mm 10 deg stem
Easton Haven Bars
Fizik Kium Gobi saddle
2011 Fox 32 Talas RLC forks

When written out like that it seems a huge amount of stuff!

I also have a XT cassette and chain ready to go on when the current stuff is worn out.

Oh and I will be cutting the forks down when I have decided on bar height!

The classic is well worth riding there are some great climbs and even better descents. To be honest it is worth riding just for the screaming mile that comes down into fairholmes.

Its not finished...

Its developed a creak, I think its the saddle so i have ordered a new seatclamp to help rule out possibilities.

Heres a photo from today now the steere clamp has been trimmed.

Check the saddle rails fella, one of my saddles creaked like mad, then noticed one of the rails had split, also my spoon creaked a lot, took All the screws ut the plastic covers and squirted grease into the rail holesand around the plastic moulding areas which has stopped it all!
Worth a check on yor bb too as with a steel frame will resonate through a lot more!

Bottom bracket was replaced this week and its still doing it so i don't think it can be that. I dismantled the seatclamp and greased it, greased the post and put it all back together and it still does it. Its a 4 ride old Fizik Gobi on Thompson post and i'm pretty sure its the saddle.

I think it'll be going back to Merlin as i'm not accepting this noise from a £100 saddle!

Yeah, for a £100 saddle I'd be not wanting it to squeak!!!

Good news!! Merlincycles agree that the seat creaks and cracks so a new one is on its way!

In other news in the process of finding the click I have replaced the Bottom Bracket with an XT one and a Salsa seat clamp was ordered and fitted.

I also have an XT front quick release as I've got massively annoyed with the Hope one fitted to the bike.
