Tablet PCs and Video Editing

Postby Cat With No Tail » Thu Aug 02, 2012 10:30 am

I've been looking into getting a tablet for home use.

All I'm really after is something that will load web pages without being infuriatingly sluggish, can play HD video, you-obvious etc, and something that I can use for editing and storing go-pro footage (so it needs to have a USB port, and access to video editing apps or pre-loaded software). I'd also like to be able to expand the storage although I am happy to buy external storage for music, videos etc if it'll work.
Oh, and if I can hook it up to my TV (Toshiba), that's an even bigger bonus.

I've been looking at the Nexus, which seems to tick all the boxes, with the added benefit of being cheap as chips. However it's only a 7" screen, and I think I'd prefer something bigger for movies etc.

I've been recommended a 10" Galaxy 2, at £250 (after cashback), which seems great on paper, but I don't really "do" technology.

Not really looking to spend more than £300, sub £250 would be ideal.

Suggestions, recommendations, comments welcome.

Go!

Editing go pro footage on a tablet is going to be painfully slow and I don't know of any decent video editing software for android.

You're also going to need a lot of storage space, you'll probably be better off with a laptop.

Storage isn't a massive issue I don't think as I've got an external drive I can just dump stuff into.

Yeh, I'm beginning to come to the conclusion I'm going to have to go for another laptop, although I really don't want to.

If you actually want to DO anything, (without making daft excuses to yourself about it being barely manageable) - get a computer of some description.

ive got a Cheapo Flytouch 3 andriod tablet, for surfing the net etc its great, but if you were to do anything hardware intensive like attempt to edit lidcam footage you'd probable Kill it lol!
for that purpose your better of with a Proper machine as above, it will be Far simpler a job to do,

weve currently just a netbook and a tablet as our big comp died last year and has been at brothers awaiting repair, - mass diy job in the house and new baby has somewhat slowed down repairs!!! the net book would do the job okay but not as good as the computer, the tablet is simply a no go for anything like that, It will play HD footage and can be hdmi'd to the telly, great for youtube etc. but as its old tech now can be a little slow if your trying data intensive pages, that said, it cost me under £100 new last year for the 10" screen version.
realistically its a Slightly more sociable option over a laptop/netbook but otherwise not Really needed! and if you go for the cover and bluetooth keyboard then you may as well get a net book!!!

My netbook would simultaneously implode and explode if I tried to edit video on it.

Would that leave it in a kind of superposition until you finished?

Went for this one in the end, knowing very little at all about computers and such, it seemed alright for the price. Considering it's not going to be used for anything particularly advanced, it should be fine anyway.
