Dealyed at work so late leaving to hear the words "Oh you should be okay getting home if you hurry... you might beat the rain"

NOOOOOOOOooooooo...oooooooOOOOOO!

Cursed!

Watching the clouds getting closer and closer. Not to mention blacker and blacker.

Get home, still dry. Get in, put on shoes to grab wheelie bin from the end of the drive, walking back up the drive with the bin and it starts to to rain.

Seriously.

1 minute later... then the skies just opened and there was thunder and lightning and a right window rattler hour or so.

Was bimbling around West Bridgford after swapping my saddle for the Charge Spoon I bought. Got caught in that and got properly wet.

Black cab pulled up next to me in a long line of bikes at the lights on Embankment off Parliament Square. Leaned out of his window and pointed at the motorbikes and scotters who had encroached the ASL ahead of us and said "Something should be done about those lot in your cycle area. I much prefer you guys up front and out of the way, instead of having you alongside my cab at the lights".

All very friendly with a big grin.

Hopefully the rise in cycling mean cabbies, truck drivers etc are becoming more cycle aware??

First bike commute in THREE MONTHS ( ) due to injuries sustained in a close encounter with a badly driven Clio.

I took it very easy and I've still got some niggling pain, but it's getting better.

I can't explain how much I've missed the bike. It was a pleasant commute too, dry, no wind, traffic wasn't bad and I stopped and rescued a fellow biker who was looking stuck at the roadside with a jammed/mangled chain 10 miles from home.

:D

After a year and a half of not commuting by bike, and barely riding at all (getting used to working, living in London etc) I set myself a target of 3,000km for this year in January.

I've already met it :). Pleased.

Ride the Curves round Donington Race track again!

I now have a fantastic workout on my Enodomondo history. Not often you get to see the outline of a World famous race track on a bicycle workout.

After numerous attempts at curing an annoying rattle on my bike I've cured it :D Checked and double checked and triple checked the pannier mounting bolts, mudguards, wheelnuts, tensioners etc and the culprit turned out to be the tension on my SPDs. Since increasing it a little the noise has gone. How long for is another matter but at present I've got a silentish bike.

This Paralympics business. Just absolutely extraordinary. The other Olympics were good but these are stunning. Absolutely stunning.

Getting a bit more serious about my riding and testing out a few local clubs to see where the best fit is.

Did the Sunday club ride with one (a little concerned as on turning up I found that it was going to be longer and faster than I had anticipated). 53 miles at an average of a hairs breadth under seventeen mph on a hilly (or 'tumpy' as I was informed) route and I survived. Loads left in the legs, but the heart rate went a bit screamy at times (as did the lungs). Still, survived!

Got home, ate an enormous sandwich washed down with a bottle of Perlenbacher and went to bed for an hour. I think I was still panting when I woke up!

To the motorcycle cop who picked of the RLJer (fixie messenger) as he passed through the lemming/sheep ped fest that is the crossing outside Charing Cross station on the Strand, I was a bit irked when he jumped the red light without the blues and twos flashing, but he took the stealth approach to stopping the messenger.

Well done that man. To you I doth my helmet.

(I was sat patiently waiting for the lights to change)

Anyone hear the Wurzels version of Common People on Radio 2 this morning. Certainly made me smile, very good.

What a beautiful day for commuting. Fitted new Conti 4 28mm Four Seasons to the soon to be retired Marin hybrid last night. What a wonderful difference to the knobbly old factory tires - on the downside the mudguards now look comically oversized! Flew down embankment (by my woeful standards). I love cycling to work and am getting quite excited about the new bike (Boardman CX)...
