My BMC Streetracer SR01 - 105

Postby colm_gti » Thu Aug 16, 2012 23:05 pm

Hello from Ireland!

A bit about me, give up playing rugby following a shoulder dislocation at the beginning of this year, after the best part of 15 years, and needed a new sport to fill the gap, so picked up my first road bike in March, a BMC streetracer SR01 with full 10spd 105...

The day I picked it up..minus a set of shimano 105 pedals...
Image

Slowly built my kms up, getting used to the bike, done my first 100km sportive in 3.5 hrs, and then the bug bit me...I joined a racing club, got a cycling ireland full competition race licence and started racing. With the increase in intensity, I suffered a pretty bad knee problem, which had me off the bike for most of April. Eventually, after numerous physio sessions, I realised it was down to a bike fit issue, better late than never, so got a professional bike fit done, which highlighted the need for a shorter crankset and longer stem. While out on a spin, my chain dropped behind the cassette and bent some spokes on my shimano R501 wheels, so I got a pair of aksiums and an 11-25 cassette and sold on the others once retrued.

Upgraded my crankset to the same shimano 105 compact double, but with 170mm cranks, and a 120mm KCNC stem, and while I was at it went for a selle italia carbon saddle.

A pic of how the bike stands now...

I have since picked up FSA wing pro compact carbon bars that I've yet to fit...

And have a pair of Planet-X forged brake calipers en-route.

Planning to pick up a KCNC seatpost, nicer bottle cages, a set of handbuilt 50mm carbon tubs and maybe a FSA K-Force Light double chainset over the winter months.

Just had my 105 pieces hung on my 2012 57cm street Racer for the holiday weekend, added a Torrelli Carbon seatpost and headed for the California Big Sur Coast and put in amazing 80km test ride. Smooth, steady and controlled, and fast! Even with my dated Mavic cxp21's. Will be adding a set of Neuvation R28SL Wheels soon. "

We don't need no stinking full Carbon!
Best,
Mark

Dude,
Don't hesitate on this ride. Its amazingly steady on the down hill at speed and as light as any carbon when accessorized with carbon bits. I recommend a carbon seat post to start. With the right set of light wheels, your in like Flynn. and you'll have lots left over for a pint or 2. Your father would love this ride, and you'll give it a jealous look yourself.

It was a bike I once considered purchasing. Can you add an image of what it most recently looks like? I was unable to view the last picture

Thanks guys, over the moon with it, have put up 5888km on it since March, according to strava, mostly racing.

I've to get around to fitting my new bars and brake calipers, and getting the steerer tube cut before I stick up a more recent photo, soon though.

Am eyeing up a set of 50mm no-logo planet x tubs for it before the beginning of next season too...

A recent pic of it, waiting to be put through its paces in my first stage race...

The carbon aero bars I bought for the TT stage...

And a pic of me being put through my paces on the TT stage...

I managed 19th place on GC out of 75 starters, happy enough seeing as I only bought this as my first bike in March, and started racing in July :)

I'm 6'1" also but preferred the 57cm frame. I'm assuming that your legs are in proportion to your torso. My inseam is about 35"
