Where did you ride today?

Got a general MTB question that doesn't fit anywhere else? Here's the place.

Got a puncture first lap - walked in and borrowed a rental Aurum for 2 quick runs - didn't have time for any set up nonsense so I blame the dead feeling rear end on no rebound (absorbed big hits, dodgy landings well but on stutter bumps it felt like a hardtail), tyres were crap (cheap hard compound rubber just wanted to break traction with the slightest lean), bars too wide (Spike 777's - I currently have 690mm on my bike) and brakes were wrong way round but the bike jumped really well and carried speed pretty well, with some tinkering it would be a good DH bike - felt very light even compared to my single crown big hit.

Heading out again tonight - hopefully no puncture tonight!

Small local run today, nothing major. Up a hill and down again, downhill trail 1 minute from the house not bad.

here (yesterday)

And it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done on or off the bike. Just an absolute killer.
First climb from 1,700m up to 2,600m  then a 10km rock garden all the way down the other side. Then another climb from 1,800m to 2,200m. Then a great descent followed by a great lunch in an amazing little Italian restaurant - not bad for €24 for everything. This was the best shot of the day..and it just happens to be of me 8)

(I was the only person riding a hardtail out of about 30 riders...pussies  )

10km rock garden? Wowzers, my arms ache just thinking about that.

Great picture

Tunnel Hill and MOD land around Pirbright ranges today. Perfect conditions. Lovely dry trails and found some new (very good) singletrack. :)
If at first you don't succeed, spend some more money on kit!

Did a nice little 30km local evening ride in Bangor, got shown some sweet techy singletrack I didn't know of, was pretty good until right at the end I slipped going down some wooden steps and gashed my knee

Did a cheeky ride in the bike park yesterday (due to land rights technically out of season the mountain is SHUT and you cant go on it but pfff who pays attention to rules?) - rode up one of the more xc inspired dh tracks, down one of the fun berm/jump runs to mid mountain, back up the green trail and then down to mid mountain on the rooty singletrack - it was sweeeeeeeeeet.

Elan Valley Yesterday.

Image

Physically exhausting due to high cross winds that drained me of power that ripped through my bones, caused my nose to run constantly and made reading the map that I was trying to follow nearly impossible.

The day before I did some awesome single track/technical double track with friends.

The picture reminds me that I have unfinished business at Elan. It's worth doing on a nice day if you fancy something a bit different, but the trail is pretty hard to follow if you are not used to reading maps or don't own a gps.

You should try following some of the footpaths around here on the open hillsides, it's difficult even when you are used to reading a map!

Burscough to Haigh Hall along the very muddy Leeds Liverpool towpath for Cream Scones then calling into several canalside pubs on the way back just to check that the beer was ok. Luckily the beer was okay though we had to have 2 just to double check.

7 mile loop of the local woods. I usually leave the missus in bed for a lie in on a weekend and go out about 7am for a couple of hours, but she was up by the time I left, so I didn't want to go out too long as I knew she'd be doing breakfast. And the wine we had last night didn't make for good energy levels! So 45 minutes of mud-plugging singletrack and a bit of loose, rocky downhill (just missed out on KoM on Strava, ars*) and I was home having scrambled egg on toast. Lovely...will probably do a bit longer tomorrow.
I am considerably more rock and roll than you.

Road. Mountain. Up hill and down dale...

Tollymore' forest, couple of hours round the usual routes. Its still nice and dry and running well. Usually finish on the champs run but missed out as was having so much fun on the new bike and lost track of time.
