Scourie, Lairg - Shops on a Sunday

Postby Brian B » Thu Oct 04, 2012 17:24 pm

Have googled the shops in the area for Sunday opening time but info is pretty short on the ground. Anybody have any info as I am going to do the Ullapool, Scourie, Lairg then back to Ullapool loop on a Sunday

Its 130 mile so need to top up my water bottles twice but only need a garage or small shop. Would be in Scourie around 11am and Lairg around 1pm.

I think you should be OK in Scourie, even if the shop's not open (I'm pretty sure it will be for the sunday papers) there is a campsite, which I'm sure you could utilise for a refill, or the hotel. Lairg I'm not so sure about but by the time you're there the hotel will be open.

Inchnadamph hostel is always open if needed. The shop in Lairg is open all day as well I think. Failing all that, there is plenty streams/burns.

I wouldn't be too worried about filling up from a burn in that area either.

Crofter/RandG

Cheers for the replies. Got the route done yesterday and main shop open in Scourie and garage was open in Lairg. Have done this route before a few times but during a sportive when there was no need to be self sufficient.

Great day out and took a little longer than usual as I wanted to soak in the scenery - no shortage of that as the whole 130miles in breath taking!

Saw many stags and the sound of them calling from the hills was great and to cap it off saw a golden eagle up close. Weather behaved itself and I set off before the sun was up and when it rose the hills were a blood red colour. What a fantastic place for cycling and the roads were light with traffic and saw about 40 cars for 130miles - awesome.

It really is a majestic place up there. Anywhere North of Ullapool is stunning and with the weekends weather it must've been fantastic.

Favorite part of the world that. Did it last year and was stunning. Another 130 loop is starting from Torridon to Kinlochewe and then head north to Gairloch down to Ullapool turn off then Garve to Achnesheen. Superb roads.

Cheers for the route info slunker - always fancied going past Loch Maree. Have to agree about favourite part of the world. Have been abroad to the Alps etc many times and Scotland can hold its own with the best in regards with Scenery if not with big climbs.
