Kings Cross to Docklands (Pontoon Dock) best route?

Postby willhub » Mon Oct 08, 2012 16:39 pm

Hi.

Calling assistance of Londoners who ride around London lots.

I've plotted this journey, I can't seem to think of one that could be better but perhaps someone knows of a much better route along the same distance? I don't want to be riding on insane roads, I don't know if the roads I've plotted on are insane.

Here is picture of plotted route:

Thanks.

Between mile 3 and 7 you are on CS3 the whole time, so while it looks a bit winding it should be easy to follow and not too crazy to cycle on.

Pangolin's route is a great one. Yours was nice and direct, Will, but it involved Old Street roundabout and Commercial Road.

Large roundabouts are best avoided as we all know and although CS7 (I think 7) is on Commercial Road, some of the driving in that neck of the woods is fuck1ng terrible. Lot's of unlicensed and uninsured drivers.

Good luck, but I am sure you'll be fine.

I'm going to use the CS3 and try to avoid huge roundabouts I'm nervous on them, if I find I'm in the wrong lane unlike a car I find it hard to change into the right one because drivers just won't allow it.

I used to live around West Silvertown (Britannia Village, but facing the dock).

You can get onto the Lower Lea Crossing by cutting through near the Thai restaurant (Waterfront Studios Business Centre on the map) and heading up Dock Road onto it - that'll cut out the East India Dock Road / Canning Town 'blip' on that last route. You can still get back onto Silvertown Way by cutting through the Village and using Britannia Gate.

Otherwise that route's pretty much spot on - worth being a little wary on CS3 at Cable Street, as cars have a habit of cutting across as they try to get onto the main thoroughfare from the side streets.

I'd be tempted to perhaps go up Gray's Inn Road on the way to Kings Cross, but only 'cos that's the way I used to commute from Carey St. to Turnpike Lane, no other reason! On the way back that's not doable due to one way traffic systems in place.
