Cannondale shortage

Postby d87francis » Wed Oct 10, 2012 00:11 am

Hi all,
annoyingly my lovingly built bike was pinched a month ago, on the plus side the £500 I spent on second hand parts to build my bike was valued at £1300 by Wheelies (my insurers chosen supplier), so with my excess I opted for a CAAD10 5 2013.

I was initially told I'd have to wait 3 weeks until the 1st of October, then it went back to the 5th and now the 29th! Is anyone else waiting on a cannondale? I don't think I can cope for much longer with just a MTB to ride and chinese carbon clinchers to admire in the corner I ordered to go with it. :x

Recently Cannondale has been reworking their distribution channels. It is worse here in Canada. I had to wait 4 months for my SuperSix EVO. Contact Cannondale about it and they should be very accommodating. They gave me the equivalent of $2,000 credit for the late delivery! Tell them your annoyed that it's taking so long and they should be able to help you out. If the CAAD10 is anything like my SuperSix it will be worth the wait!

East Street Cycles in Walton-on-Thames have a 2012 54cm in stock on special. For some really dumb-ass reason their website says they haven't. Ask to speak to Damian. Can't recommend that shop enough.

I'm in exactly the same boat. Oredered a CAAD10 105 for £1400 but was then told it wont be available 'til next april. Just ordered a supersix today instead which I can get at the end of november with wheelies. Was told there have been numerous recalls for the 10 which is why supply has been delayed so much (6 months??) and to be honest that's put me off completely. Makes you wonder how strong an alu frame weighing around 1100g can actually be. Yeah it's stiff in the right direction, but any knock and your beloved frame is dented. Lovingly cherished my CAAD9 from new but it still had a couple of annoying dings. Learning to appreciate it's not always about the weight!

Cannondale have had this sort of problem for years. But it's not just them, I bought a Specialized Roubaix in June (I know it's Dark Side but my LBS is 200m away and they became a Specialized dealer, I still have my CAAD5). I wanted the Dura-Ace version but it was sold out. Took Ultegra and was told there were only 12 left in size 52 for the whole UK until the 2013 model came in! The Allez was sold out by then and dealers couldn't get more until this month.

Why did you order Chinese carbon clinchers to go with your mountain bike?

If Wheelies wait until the 29th to then tell me I have to wait until April I will go nuts, the last two times it got extended I only found out on the day it was supposed to turn up.

Thing is I'm a bit stuck really. My insurance limit was £1000, but because Wheelies have some deal with my insurer where they pass the discount on (they are owned by the same company, I think) I can actually get £1300 worth of bike from them + my excess = CAAD10. However, if I choose to take the money it is £1000 minus the discount that they could have received from their supplier, so I presume about £800.

The Caad 10 will still be a sweet bike, if you ever get it  As it happens because wheelies were unable to supply the bike in a reasonable time my insurance payed up the retail for the bike. Had to take a small hit for accessories though. If this does happen to you then chase them for the cash.
