1984 Raleigh Burner MKII Headset Issues

Postby Feeblington » Sun Oct 14, 2012 17:14 pm

I got given the bike mentioned, had no cups or anything, was just a bare frame. I managed to find some cups from another bmx that fit the frame/forks, but the common bearing size in shops (not sure what it is) is slightly to large for the cups, and the cups they've offered me wont fit the frame. Any help would be great; bearing sizes etc. I've been tinkering with bikes for almost 10 years but my terminology is way out.
Thanks in advance!

Here's the culprit

afraid not :( unless the local bike shop hada wierd fitting, the cups and bearings well, the cups were too small for the frame and the bearings to large for the other cups.

then a more accurate measurement is needed. to ID exactly which headset standard has been used. and you are aware that headset cups are an interference fit and can be quite a tight press fit.

or ask on http://www.burnerworldforum.co.uk/

You need an old skool BMX headset, seemingly the same as 1" threaded headset but different. None of the modern sized headsets will fit. Try a specialist in BMX bikes.

slightly bigger than the 1 1/4" mentioned but should be right.
