It's a great article in itself.

Bloody hell. Close over takes and beeps wind me up, not sure how I'd cope with someone cobbing a rock at me.

Puts things into perspective.

Couldn't help but think they will be dissappointed if they find out about Pantani's past.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I doubt worries over doping enter into it. I for one can still remember watching the '98 Tour he won, and in particular the mountain stage where he left everyone for dust. I know now that it was more than likely chemically assisted, but it was still pretty awe-inspiring to watch.

Anyway, I was mostly impressed with the seven guys who persist with their sport despite abuse, outdated equipment and not enough money to get out of the country to compete.

But this was a bit odd:

And that’s even worse in white van drivers, right?
Ha, perhaps! I did do an analysis on a subset of the data which showed white vans tended to be amongst the worst culprits for getting close when passing cyclists. Interestingly, red vans were much better behaved. I take my hat off to the audience member who, at a public talk, put two and two together here and suggested an excellent explanation: most of the red vans were Post Office vans, and postal delivery people have often cycled as part of their work and so understand cyclists. This would totally fit the picture I’m developing here of how a key problem is the majority of road users not understanding the needs and behaviours of a minority with whom they have to share resources; as soon as you take a group of drivers who do know what it is to be in that minority, behaviour improves.

I can just imagine sitting in that presentation and waiting to point out that the Post Office have red vans and would have colleagues who cycle.

You can now donate to help these guys get to a race in the UAE.

People reckon this is legit? I'll chuck them a bit of cash if so.
