Hadleigh MTB Club

Postby C0LL0 » Sat Oct 06, 2012 12:26 pm

The Hadleigh MTB club is now up and running and taking memberships, with an official launch party planned real soon. I believe it to be the first club to be formed as a direct legacy of the Olympic games this summer. more info can be found athttp://www.hadleighmtbclub.co.uk :D

The Benefits of becoming a member, well where do I start.... It depends upon your outlook

If your a racer then being part of the club (the only club to be based at an Olympic venue) is a must, I'll make it clear now, that when the course opens to the public next autumn it will be open to everybody free of charge. The club will have some privileges over normal persons usage. Finer details still being worked out.

As the club is built on the legacy of the games, getting more people into mountain bikes is its aim, especially the young, and if through the correct training (qualified trainers are in the club) is used, the next Olympic champion may come from Hadleigh MTB Club. Youth members will be able to have exclusive training sessions with the trainers on our own specially designed skills area, currently under construction.

You will receive discounts from various shop/businesses more coming online all the time, they can be found on our website, you even get a £10 voucher to spend at a local bike shop in Hadleigh, so for your £20 membership you get half back straight away. Over the year you could save 10 times what the membership actually costs.

Knowing that by spending a little once a year there are loads of people working behind the scenes, making sure that the Hadleigh Olympic course is always in top condition, we will have a working party (like the TRoGs and Timber keeping Hadleigh going).

As this is a new club (non profit making) any ideas that our members have will be investigated and if we, the members can utilise it then it'll be another bonus for us.

Things are changing daily at the moment with meeting with different people and departments so always something exciting happening, would you not want to be part of it from the start ??

Have another look at the website, new content all the time.

Hey i'd be interested in that. If you have any more info on the alterations or new tracks that would be great? i ride a bit more all-mountain/enduro riding? will that sort've thing be catered for at the altered site? I dont mind too much if not, would love to ride an olympic track regardless but would be more tempting for me...

The course alterations along with new tracks being built through the neighboring country park should start soon, and the new cafe/changing rooms/bike hire building . don't think there is any camping in the area but as it's very close to Southend-on-Sea lots of hotels/b&b's.

If you want the chance to ride the course in all it's glory before the alterations are made, you can apply by sending an e-mail to Essex legacy stating your experience on a MTB. But remember it's an unclassified course built for the worlds elite riders.

:D I got a message late Friday afternoon, can you be at the Hadleigh Olympic Track on Saturday for a coached session on the course, yes yes and thrice yes, woo hoo, Hadleigh MTB Club had been selected for our work so far to be the first group on the coach led ride around the course :D

John and Tom were great guys and showed how each segment should be ridden, I think fear is a positive feeling sometimes it's what stops us doing stupid things, fear got the better of me a couple of time but I rode Oak Tree Drop and stayed on 2 wheels, Jumped the northshore section (but only just) and rode the B line down triple trouble.

I am not technically gifted on a MTB so thanks guys you gave me the encouragment and confidence to do this; this morning, and the best thing it was a free session, thanks . anyone can have this session bookable through essex legacy website and it's not fortunes only £25 for a 2 hour session. Go on you know you want to

Hi Ben, If you have a facebook account go along to Hadleigh MTB Club and become friends, then you'll get to know when things are happening, we do intend to visit other clubs further afield and try to make a network of clubs and do a kind of exchange package, we come to you and you come to us kind of thing.

Hadleigh course coaching sessions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qJWKFD6Rnqw

Tom Dowie and John Stockwell runs these bookable through the Essex legacy website, loads of fun and probably your only chance to ride the full course before it's dumbed down for public use, yes you have to pay but when it's free these parts won't be open to the public.

Looks like all but one of the features are staying on the Olympic course (monument has to go) the others will have mild alterations to make them flow better and have an obstacle on the approach to the A lines so that if you can't clear the obstacle you won't be able to ride the line, some new sections to be built also and the whole course will be surfaced instead of grassed area's.

Work is scheduled for May 2012 and with the British XC championship running there in August one would assume it'll be completed by then!!!!
