Winter blues? I am just so meh at the moment

Postby SimonAH » Sun Nov 04, 2012 14:05 pm

I know, I know, sounds a bit like "Ban the duck Bub!" right?

I'm just really struggling at the moment due to a combination of grey days, too much work and a shoulder injury - just can't seem to get the grmph to get out there...

Snap. Mine is a combination of a bout of pleurisy, god-awful rain, and the recent purchase of a car. I have to shuffle past my bike on the way out and try not to catch its eye in case it gives me a dirty look.

I wish I could ride my bike. I Tried to pull the brakes on the MTB yesterday and couldn't really put any pressure on them at all. I have to walk, use public transport or get lifts off people as I can't even drive. I even tried to run a little bit the other day but I couldn't breathe properly as my ribs still hurt.
So MTFU and get out there, MSM you can WTFU.

There may have been a couple of occasions when I was glad to be chauffeured in a nice warm car, but only a couple mind.

Back to work tomorrow myself, but in the car. Had a number of complications following the snip I had on 11th October, and still have an open wound. On horse sized antibiotic tablets. Been off sick 3 weeks.

Hope next week I can get back on the bike. The MTB is geared up as the winter commuter for an off road route, so I may just use this for a few weeks, than risk riding the fixed with a tender undercarriage.

Permanently knotted left shoulder. Very sore - currently lying on tennis balls. Not managing to get as many miles in as I need to at the moment :(:(
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

I've been awful recently. Square wheel syndrome I call it. Just keep going and it will be fine. You want to be worried if you're feeling shoot in April or May.

Me too. Used to love winter, but a long term hip injury means I can't go out running anymore, and I'm not really in the mood to put in any more road/mtb miles on the bike after cycling home.

Don't even want to use the ole motorbike these days either in this poo'y weather.

Went out on Tuesday and had a lovely time, not too cold, little wind, then the sun came out. Legs worked better than I could remember, I rode further and faster than I intended :D Rode on Friday, colder and wetter but still better than being indoors.

Sorry.

Go to the GP, get a referral to a pain specialist. Steroid injections worked awesome on my trigger points in my back and trapezius. Other option is a good physio. Had both though. The physio helped, the steroids sorted it.

Climbing the walls here. Bike is in for a warranty replacement work so that's two weeks off it so far, and the mix of half term and stuff that needs doing stops me riding any of the fleet at the minute. Haven't sat on any bike of any description for 15 days now.

It's coming to that, I think.

I always feel the same at this time of year, I think it's knowing that the good weather is a long way away. At least in say Feb you've got a month or two to go until some warmer weather.

Doing okay at the moment, but it's the end of January and early February that always really get me. Still getting out 2 to 3 times a week, which is good. Takes a bit more effort to get out there, but I always enjoy it when I do. Noticeable that my form doesn't feel as good as the summer, although the average speeds are still holding up.

A lack of nutty espresso, ongoing negotiations with LV Insurance and Wheelies (there is light at the end of the tunnel, though :D ), and a string of pathetic illnesses culminated in me being dropped from my group in the Dynamo RP ride on Saturday. And then being dropped again by the following group. I'm trying to convince myself that it was because I was riding a far-too-small-for-me Bianchi instead of a jet-powered super bike, but I fear this is going to be a tough winter...

I'm actually alright at the moment as well, although I can see the mood darkening as the nights/mornings draw ever closer.

But come the solstice, it will be an upward curve all the way till the next solstice! (I Still might have to book a bit of winter sun though around Jan/Feb).

I thought it was just me. The last week or so has been terrible, only ridden a couple of days through a combination of excuses and evenings out. The thing is I hate PT so much but i've still been shabby at getting out on the bike. This week will be better, no more excuses. 8)

I'm in "meh" mode at the moment as well. Far too wet and cold for my liking, Sunday's race was plain nasty and my legs just felt - empty. Reckon its time for some long tempo rides, maybe take a month off and get stuck back in before Christmas (need to do something to counter the adverse effects of alcohol / mince pies etc!)

I saw on Strava you'd been on Alice's bike. Not knowing who Alice is I had a picture of you trying to ride the kids bike you posted a picture of round RP, made me chuckle.
