Now I know that 88.3% of statistics are made up, but...

is it because its' so flat?
Better infrastructure?
Do they have C2W?
Is it because they are so stoned that they won't risk taking the car :shock:
If Wales was flattened out, it'd be bigger than England!

...and the US is quite a large place to try and get around by bike unless you happen to live really close to where you work.

Average commutes vary very little between countries. Just because you you live in a large country doesn't mean you drive half way across it to get to work.
