R501 Campag Compatibility

Postby wilky27 » Mon Nov 05, 2012 12:06 pm

Hi all,

I'm upgrading my groupset from SORA to Veloce and don't really want to change my wheelset. Is it possible to put a Campag freehub body onto a Shimano R501 freehub?

Thanks.

I'm not sure I'd buy a £40 cassette that likely won't shift as well as a real Campag one just so I could use an £85 wheelset.

Sell the old wheels and buy something Campag friendly

Al alternative is to get a Shiftmate for now - it'll let you keep the wheels and Shimano block until/if you upgrade the wheels. And when you do, you'll probably be able to sell the Shiftmate second hand for a few quid:

I've used one of those Ambrosio cassettes and it shifted fine. No problem at all. I might even have one I can sell you if I look hard enough in my shed. I'm gradually going 11 speed so I'm starting to have a surplus of 10 speed cassettes!
