Decathlon 8.1 Forks - Air or Spring?

Postby adri123 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 09:20 am

Hi

I have just bought a RockRider 8.1. Are the Recon Silver TK forks spring or air and is it worth adjusting them for my weight (average)?

If they are air do they need pumping up every now and then just like tyres do?

TIA

Adri

looks like a coil spring to me judging by the below photo. All suspension should be adjusted to the rider weight, set the fork sag to approx 25% with the preload adjuster.

Air or coil, both are springs........

You need to set it, though coil is less critical, does it have an air valve at the top of the left hand leg? I thought they were air.

top of the left hand leg there's the preload adjuster but also a hex screw which might reveal a valve. I don't want to take it off just in case I let all the air out (if it is an air fork) and don't have a pump yet.

If its air it won't have a preload adjuster, just a valve.

exactly, they are coil and the default coil spring will be a red/medium for a 70/80kg weight range, as shown here http://cdn.sram.com/cdn/farfuture/EutPS ... t_2013.pdf
