Should I buy an Xbox?

Postby bigtallandheavy » Sun Nov 11, 2012 19:18 pm

My ps3 just died with black ops 2 incoming and a boring winter / Xmas ahead.

I have had it for 4 years and I am really behind on consoles etc but spotted a 250gb Xbox in sainsburys or 159.99 today.

Advice much appreciated. Can I play an Xbox online straight out of the box etc?

Is it stupid to buy one with a possible round of new consoles incoming?

Still a good buy imo. It will be a while before the new generation launch and even longer before they have a decent choice of games. History suggests that this is often the best time in a consoles lifespan to buy as developers have mastered them.

You'll be kicking yourself when you finally realise you should have bought an xbox in the first place ;)

Go for it.. Call of Duty deserves it. But you'll need £40 for an xbox live gold subscription after the initial 1 month free.

(and HALO 4)

Didn't think I could ignite this debate on a cycling forum...! I'm going to go for it!

No, you shouldn't buy an Xbox, you should take this opportunity to grow up, get out on your bike and turn the hours of vegitating in front of the screen into fitness and training time. Your cycling will improve and you will thank me for this sage advice when you are faster up the hills than all your friends.

This advice is given with the following caveats:
1. I am sitting in front of a screen vegitating whilst providing this advice, when I should be cycling,
2. As a PS3 owner you probably don't have any friends to beat up the hills.

....... Thank you for your reply, as a young man with no kids I am sure I can do both albeit separately.
A cycling game to play own would combine both hobbies!

Depending on the number of PS3 games you have, I'd just get a PS3 again...

Go for it. I think it's quieter than the PS3. Inboard wireless now makes it a cinch to set up and play online out of the box with no added cost or hardware. Not as feature-laden as the PS3 but a good bit cheaper because of it.

As for PCs, at least with the console you just put the game in and play; no worrying whether the graphics card is up to it, your drivers are up to date and the controls are useable and memorable.

I know someone with a 'box' thats x rated and it will cost you much less than 160 nicker. The software can be a bit tetchy though.

I'd suggest a ZX Spectrum. The keyboard isn't as good as the Commodore 64, but there are better games. Forget the BBC Micro - that's just for rich kids, and Elite is the only decent game.

Don't forget you'll need a friend to read out the program code from the magazines.

Are you sure it is virus free too?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
