So how far do you go on a ride?

Postby #david2012 » Sun Nov 18, 2012 22:23 pm

I know I'm posting this in the road beginners, but I'm curious as to how far we novices ride at the weekend?
I'm up into the 30's now and appreciate choice of routes and how hard your working plays a part in how far we go.
I got my first road bike in August so happy with my progress from my first 8 mile outing :D

I got my bike at beginning of September and currently doing between 30 and 40 miles on weekend. I usually ride one day of the weekend and rest the other.

Similar timing on my side... and 30-40 miles per session once a week (typically on a Sunday)... slowly trying to build up!

If the roads are dry and not icy first thing, then I'm currently doing 19 miles two or three times during the week, and then a longer ride at the weekend. Last weekend I did a flat 40 miler, but today I only managed 26, since I couldn't start till the afternoon and the traffic was awful, so I cut it short to avoid having to be in the traffic in the dark.

I started in early October this year.

On a Sunday, usually around 100 km on a club run. In the week, if I go out on my own then usually 50 km or so. Joining a club soon after I'd bought my first road bike dropped me in at the deep end in terms of distance! I soon got used to it though.

usually 30-40 miles at a weekend, one ride only

If I'm pushing it I might do more. However, been off the bike for a couple of months (injury and now in Qatar) so probably only fit to do about 3 miles when I get back...

I was hitting 30 miles prior to a stinking cold and starting work. Now Its whatever I have time for, Looking to get back to around 30 miles asap, but depends on weather and work. Glad of the Turbo I bought.

I'm doing 2 rides of around 30 miles on the weekend plus a couple of 15 mile rides on the weekend. I'm averaging 86 miles per week over the last month. Hopefully I can keep it up as the colder months approach.

I have a small boy, so it's more about quality and effort rather than time. It's only really 1.5 hours on a ride, so as far as i can :)

Try to get 100 miles a week in but i generally only get out twice a week and it's usually between 40-60 miles, i'm at home with two young lads so you make the most of what time you have.
I've done quite well this year though and i'm heading for 5000 miles for the year, i'm just praying that the weather stays ok because i've got 610 miles to do in 6 weeks which should'nt be a problem.

20-30 miles on a Wednesday night with my 70+ Dad and 30-40 on my own on a Sunday morning - Can't manage too much more on a Sunday, it gets a bit boring on your own! :D

Around 80 miles across 2 weekend rides. I have a bit of time during the week at the moment so I'm able to get a few more miles in.

25-50 miles for a weekend solo rides, get bored with anything longer unless I'm heading somewhere and not doing a loop.

40 mile round trip during the week, 4-5 days, averaging 200 mile weeks this year. go me.

If there are 7 days a week without rain I will ride 5 times (so normally 3 or 4 times) but only have time (like other ops, due to kids) for rides between 12 and 18 miles but they are hilly so I get a good workout. Every weekend I plan a 30+ and then it pees down and I chicken out. I know! time to MTFU but I want to enjoy my first long ride so will wait until I get a weekend when it doesn't rain.
No matter how many times I go out it never seems enough :( time for a turbo trainer I thinks :)

during autumn winter, around 70-80 miles a weekend. summertime will be 3 evenings, and then the weekend as well, probably doing around 150 a week. more if i get a better bike!

A couple of weeks ago I did a 36 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday. And 2 x 6 mile rides in the week; just to keep the cycling withdrawal symptoms at bay.

Last week just 1 x 6 miles mid-week and only managed 30 on Sat, 17 on Sunday.

I want to get to a point where I can do 30 on back to back days easily and then add another 5 miles each day. If I can achieve 50 on 2 consequetive days I plan to cycle to the in-laws and back.
