Try and do 60 miles at the weekend if I can, if not at least 30.

Mid week, max would be 2x30 miles, more likely 2x20 miles or one longer one, and less in the dark, wet, cold winter months - currently not getting out at all during the week due to work commitments and the weather.

On any given day enywhere between nothing and 250 miles
constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly

Miles are irrelevant for me in training, all my sessions are time based, that said, my minimum ride is 1hr, which is normally 17 miles, give or take, longest can be up for 5-6hrs (100ish miles)

Thanks everyone, so it seems 30-40 milers are the average for those beginners amongst us, I agree though that a lot depends on personal time available with family's etc.

I'm pleased that I'm not far off that mileage, but at the end of the day I just enjoy what I do :D
I know that distance isn't everything and how hard you ride / challenge yourself is just as rewarding but
1year ago I was 16.5 stone, 40" waist, xxl chest  Now 13.2 stone, 34" waist, m chest :D
Cycling has had a huge impact on me and my lifestyle, I'm loving it!

I did a 38 mile loop on Saturday, which was nice. Made me think i'd like to join a club soon. Closest one does 30- 50 miles on the "easier ride" so i'm hoping i might be able to cling on for dear life.

On Sunday i took my dad and sister out for a ride on our mtbs. A much less enjoyable experience- constant moaning on their part! Really draining for me as i had to keep nagging them to continue before it got dark!

Felt really bad when i found out we did 15 miles (they hardly ever go out on bikes). Think i over estimated their comfort levels.

I'm currently doing 30 miles both Saturday and Sunday. After the Sunday cycle the legs feel the burn a bit.

I did a 28 mile ride last Monday at night, but didn't enjoy the unlit stretches of road, I need a much better front light!

I would do a regular 30-40 midweek ride if I had a better front light / once the evenings are lighter. Instead I do 3 workouts for 30 mins on an exercise bike, just to keep the fitness up for the weekend cycle.

I was trying to up my speed for 30 - 40 mile rides so I could join a club.

When I finally managed a flattish 45 mile run at smidge under 20 (it killed me by the way) I thought I was ready. So I did my first club run last weekend 52 miles ......... but there is a big difference, they only count riding speed, so their little breaks for water, food and a chat don't count. So in my terms they averaged about 13mph which made the whole thing a lot less daunting.

Going one up to the 16 mph 70 miler this weekend.

Dont really bother with miles its all about time...but probably no less than 35 miles and no more than 70 on any given day.
