Shoe size discrepancy

Postby nolight » Tue Nov 20, 2012 18:48 pm

Hi I am confused at the Men's cycling shoe size.

On Evanscycles:
EU 43 = UK 9 = US 9.5
EU 42 = UK 8 = US 8.5

On Chainreactioncycles/Wiggle:
EU 43 = UK 8

So is the EU 43 same size on both sites (Evans and others)? Or is UK 8 same size on both sites?

I don't know. I do know I'd never buy any shoes without trying them on first though.

42 is an 8 but its irrelevant as every shoe company makes them differently.

A vast difference in sizes between manufacturers so try before you buy.

I tried Shimano and it is size 43 (number at bottom of shoes). So if I buy online I should get the EU size 43 right? Evanscycles and CRC's EU 43 = Shimano's size 43?

I bought my shoes from Evans and i'm generally an 8 in shoes.

I got 8.5 and they fit perfectly, I know for sure I wouldn't be comfortable in 8s and 9s would be too big.

Although every foot is different I guess. Maybe I just got lucky.

Is your shoes Shimano and if so what does 8.5 translate to Shimano size for your case?

Ignore the sizing unitl you know which brand suits your width/length combo.

Buy your first pair from the LBS. If you don't you are likely to regret it. The disappointment of having to send shoes back and not ride your bike is not worth saving a few quid.

It depends a lot on the make of the shoes, some come up small e.g. most of the Italian makes, some up come to size and relatively few come oversize. Best to try on a few makes first to determine what 'last' fits you best.
FWIW Euro 42 = UK 8 is the generally accepted view.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

After checking at a few websites (eg probikekit), I realise Shimano is 1 size smaller than the typical EU size. Shimano 43 = EU 42.
