and what type of usage?

If looking for a general XC / trail bike, how about the Cotic Soul and Pipedream Sirius

sorry - not nearly enough info in the first post!

going to be built mainly from existing parts and for xc/trail centre use.

bits i have already to use:

26" wheels (mavic crosstrail)
120/150 talas tapered steerer (cut to 205mm, this may prove to be important!)
easton haven bars/stem

so a frame to suit the forks would be a starting point...

Unless you want to run the forks constantly at 120 I don't think the frames I mentioned would be suitable.

Maybe have a look at the Cotic BFe or one of the Ragley frames or On One Carbon 456. I know you said steel frame but if you want to use a 150mm fork I think C456 is one of the best options for the kind of riding you said.

Should we assume you already have an Onone 456 summer season, from your avatar?

I've just got a spicy 516 after getting rid of a fuel ex8 which i'm a bit concerend might be a bit much for bimbling around my little training route.

Ah well in that case. I think a 120mm hardtail would supplement a spicy very well then. So back to my original suggestions of Cotic Soul and Pipedream.

As a temp measure drop your forks to 120mm using the Talas system and possibly look at a permanent travel change in the future as when funds allow ... ?

34/44 is a standard external top cup, and the fitting for a Zerostack bottom cup - which can be, of course, fitted with an external cup to run a tapered steerer. But why not just leave it 44/44 to increase options ie run a full Zerostack with 1.125 steerer?

So use your 26"in the 650B frame.....it only affects BB height by 1/2"!
