rs30 wheels..whats best tyres to use?

Postby elderone » Thu Dec 06, 2012 02:24 am

I,ve decided to get some rs30 wheels mainly on looks as i think they look ace in white and so my minds made up on the wheel front. Now what tyres would be best for general riding and a sportiv. Also i like the look of tyres with a colour around the sides but have no idea what these are.
On the planet x site where i,ve seen these wheels at a good price,it says for 10 speed you need a 1mm spacer. Can any one explain what this means.
thanks.

Choosing wheels for their looks is absolutely the right thing to do imho and I think the best coloured tyres for you would be Schwalbe Ultremo ZX because they are fast, light and look great.

The spacer for 10 speed cassettes just slips onto the freehub before the cassette because a 10 speed cassette is slightly thinner than an 8 or 9 speed cassette, this is due to thinner cogs and different spacing. Your existing wheels may have a spacer on them already but if not they cost less than £1.00 from a local bike shop and are freely available. There are certain tools you need to be able to remove a cassette, a chain whip and a cassette removal tool, you can buy these or just get the lbs to change the cassette over for you and they will fit the spacer automatically.

Tyres are as personal as wheels and bar tape and saddles and bottle cages and...... you get my drift.

Stay away from coloured tyres, they look naff.

Good all rounders tend to be Continental GP4000s, Schwalbe Ultremo, Vittoria Open Pave etc etc.
Yellow is the new Black.

I love coloured tyres and don't think they look naff but hey we are all different, I would never buy anything from Apple coz it is rip off.

Continental GP 4000

That's what you need. It's also one of the best all around tire out there. I read an extensive study shown with that tire compared to a lot of others, and it held up the best in both wet grip and durability.

It's a hard tire though;if you're racing, I'd use something lighter and softer. If you want something that won't flat and allows you to put some serious high end miles on, get those. Great color choice as well.

However, it's 1 solid strip on the top. Michelin Pro 4 Endurance have the black strip in the middle and colored on the sides.
