Frame protector thingy.

Postby Batmo » Sat Dec 08, 2012 11:02 am

My aluminium Trek had a metal frame protector bonded to the chainstay that has fallen off and been lost (after 15 years!). It was about 1.5 inches by 1 inch and positioned at the point where the chainrings are closest to the chainstay to stop the chain from chewing up the frame when it occasionally gets sucked into the gap.

I've tried to find a replacement but my web searches only turn up the self adhesive strip or neoprene tube type of protectors for the length of the stay. Does anyone have a name for one of these things that'll help me find one, or is it likely to be a bespoke item?

Thanks for the replies... but this wasn't a sleeve for protecting the shaft, more of a metal shield at the point where the stay bends in to join the seat tube, adjacent to the chainrings.

Sounds like it'll be pretty frame specific. They used to do lots of things like that when your bike was new.
