Dave Brailsford

Postby Nick1972 » Mon Dec 17, 2012 12:17 pm

I've looked but can't find a thread to congratulate Dave Brailsford. What an amazing job this man does. I think after New Years honours list it should be Sir Dave Brailsford.

Amen to that. From reading Miller's book he thoroughly deserves it for being a genuinely decent person as well as his work with Sky and GB.

You're right nick1972, I made this suggestion / prediction months ago when people were calling for Bradley to be Knighted [rightly so]. He is the mastermind behind the British domination of cycling at the moment in a range of discplines.
Of course members on this forum don't need telling but the general public have only recently realized the fantastic work that guy has put in, and of course that work has been extremely succesfully.
Again rightly so Alf Ramsey was Knighted as was Clive Woodward but I do feel British Cyclings successes a few years ago weren't as expected as the Football and Rugby triumphs.

Arise Sir Dave!!!

oh and of course Sir Bradley, like to be a fly on the wall to hear what he says to the Queen!!

Or we could just wait until after he's retired from his career and achieved, hopefully, a whole lot more. The neccessity for instant gratification for recognition in the New Years Honours is symptomatic of much that is wrong with everything today!

the best bit out of the last night show for him is he mentioned "british wheels were more round than the french" again :) it's so brilliant!

He may well regret that!

Instant recognition? Dave Brailsford has been doing it for years, master planning the Beijing and London Olympics and of course the TDF.
I think what he has achieved to date deserves that recognition surely.

I think when he first mentioned the round wheels to the French he was quite incredulous that they wrote it down ........... and that they didn't immediately pick up that the extra round wheels were in fact made in France!

In sport I would be a bit weary before distributing honorific titles... in a couple of years it might turn up the secret is a new drug that is not tested for... so I would wait before getting over excited
Time will tell and give the real dimentions of these achievements

I'll go one further, and suggest he's one of the most successful sporting coaches/leaders/administrators the UK has ever had. What he has masterminded is nothing short of amazing.

Suggestions please for who has done more than him in any sport over such a period.

You have to be realistic... go back in history and find a dominance that was not fuelled by drugs of some sort.
German and then Chinese female swimmers, North American sprinters, pretty much all winners of the Tour de France, various football teams... the list is endless.

I hope Team Sky and Team GB are clean, but I wouldn't bet my pension pot on it

But would he have got his chance if it hadn't have been for Peter Keen and Chris Boardman?

Who's to say, but he's been given the chance and look what he's done with it.

Sure, no problem with that. Just think that Peter Keen tends to be forgotten a bit.

I had the honour of meeting him a few weeks ago. Very smart guy.

Same goes for Kerrison (though he does remind me of an aussie Dexter).

Come on mate, the next thing you'll be telling us is Father Xmas doesn't exist !!!!

I hear what you are saying but all of a sudden it feels as though he's got to justify he's achieved it all with a clean way of running things.
