SID v Reba

Postby mastermosher » Fri Dec 21, 2012 15:49 pm

Hi,
Looking at getting a new bike and with the money I can afford atop line bike with RS SID RL. Someone said to me that I am too heavy a rider for these forks as I am 220lbs. The lower spec model has Reba RL on it which they said is fine for me.
Is this true what my oppo has told me.
I do have the option of a model with FOX CTD but I am swaying towards the Rockshox models as I have always has them and they come with the pop lock as well and the FOX does not.
I don't mind what they say... as long as they say its enormous

Rebas and SIDs have the same external structure - the weight difference mainly comes from paired down innards.

Thanks Supersonic. So id the Reba the better fork for my weight, although they are both air sprung?

Both will be absolutely fine for XC duties. The SID has more options.

The main issue with SIDs will be the air shaft, which is heavily butted internally, and so might not like your weight. Everything else on a SID is pretty strong. Rebas probably make sense.

(although IIRC the SID 120s dont have that issue)

The butted air shaft makes no difference to the weight of the rider - as long as the max air pressure is not breached.

I thinks I will still go with the Rebas as the Bike with the SIDs was another £400.
Cheers all.
