Carrera in halfora sale

Postby scottybob » Mon Dec 24, 2012 21:27 pm

Just seen this on tv and had a look with a web discount it's £270!

I mostly do mountain biking but have been wondering about buying a cheap road bike too. What do you guys reckon? I know its not going to be a top spec but is it half decent for a cheap bike?

It,s an ideal beginners bike. If it,s your size then go for it.

It's a perfectly good bike for that price, but don't be fooled by the £499 RRP. I doubt they sell many at that price. Also note that it comes with a standard chainset, not a compact, which you might want to take into account if you live in a hilly area. There's a review of it here. You might also want to take a look at the B'Twin Triban 3, which is £299, of similar spec and gets good reviews, such as this.

Yeah, I wouldn't say that's much of a bargain to be honest. At entry level I'm very much an advocate of buying second hand. If you know your stuff about mountain bikes, then road bikes really aren't any different and you could pick up twice the bike for that price.

Yeah I know what saying about a good second hand bike as I just got a 2k mountain bike that was used once and had 9 month warranty for £780.
What about this

I don't want to spend a great deal as I mostly do mountain biking anyway

Someone in my Club rides a Triban3 and really rates it.
It always gets good reviews and you are going to get a shiny new red bike with a warranty.

What's not to like? :)

That is where my £300 would be going.

Yep, that's the Triban I mentioned above. It's worth reading the Cycling Weekly review I posted a link to.

I tried looking at the link but it doesn't work so I will have to try when I turn laptop on as I'm on my phone at the minute.

Ah. Yes, Cycling Weekly articles often don't work on phones, I've found. There's another review, as part of a group test, here.
