Seatposts and shims

Postby satnavsteve » Wed Dec 26, 2012 21:07 pm

I've recently picked up a titanium bike, but would like to change a few bits and pieces, starting with the seatpost.
I'm thinking of a Thomson elite but prefer the look of 27.2 tubes rather than the 31.6 it should take.
Has anyone had issues using a shim with ti to alloy posts? Or is it no problem to do?

No problem to do but will look pants.

Honestly after you put the 31.6 on you will never even notice the difference.

I have a different pov, a 27.2 with a USE or other plastic shim is lighter than the 31.6 post in most cases.

There's talk of 27.2s flexing more than 31.6 posts, I have 8 bikes and can't tell the difference the post makes on any of them, but there's no harm in going for it if you like the look.

Shims are great b/c you can have several 27.2s around and use them on all your bikes as you wish (unless you have a 25mm Alan or Vitus 979)
