Longest Ride To Date-

Postby Super Prestige » Tue Jan 01, 2013 16:00 pm

As the title says, took my son out today, for his first ride (other then up and down the street) on his new bike.
He managed 26 miles with an average of 12 mph, not bad for 13. He has well and truly got the bug. :D

That's good going over that distance, I'm assuming its pretty flat. None the less still pretty good. Got to say though, as his dad sort his helmet out and straighten it up..... Us roadies have a rep to uphold.

Excellent, I've had my road bike about 3 months and I did my longest ride today. 50.6 miles.
How does he feel now? any aches?

Well done indeed - don't forget to show him how he should clean your bike while he is doing his own ;)

No aches or pains, and has just demolished a rather large roast dinner. He is know on Strava comparing are segments.

If all goes to plan he should be hopefully ready for a 100 by the end of April.

Well done indeed. You realise it won't be many years before he's ripping your legs off? ;)

A brilliant effort. Makes sure he doesn't over do it though as joints and muscles are still developing at that age

exellent effort and you have to love a sport where a 13 year can ride on equal terms with adults.Do hope he keeps it up and "girls" dont get in the way.
brilliant.

My son is only 11, and is nagging me for a road bike after BW's achievements this year, but holding off for a couple of months (we are moving in a couple of months, to an area with quieter, safer roads), so got him a BMX for Xmas to sharpen his handling skills etc.
My mate's boy, Jack, at 13, is coming across France with us in May (Cherbourg-Nice), did North to South Wales with us last 'summer' and did JOGLE in a fortnight when he was 10

That's him in the yellow jacket and his dad sitting on the pavement at Holyhead!

Thanks, for all the kind comments, we went out again today and did the the same ride again. This was the first outing with his new shoes, and clipless pedals. He had a few moments of panic, and a few encounters with tarmac when unclipping. This was a t the start of the ride but by the end there where no more dramas. He is going to start a blog to record all his rides and milage, i will post a link for anyone interested.

A quick pic of his bike with new pedals,

is that a good ideal at such a young age??
just a observation that's all.....
