Stick with what i've got!?

Postby zemfan » Sat Jan 12, 2013 17:58 pm

Thoughts people!
My girlfriend keeps asking why I have three bikes, non of which are perfect or exactly what I want, why don't I sell them she asks and get one I really want!
The bikes are as follows ; Specialized Globe for commuting, GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2008 Hardtail, Specialized Enduro Comp Full Sus 2002.
The problem is I need the road bike so that stays but do I try and put the other two into one I really want, realistically I am only going to realise a moderate amount if I sell them and I want a Lapierre Spicy, it aint gonna work is it!!

If you don't have the budget to add to the proceeds from selling two bikes to get the bike you want then you have already answered your own question!
2011 Giant Trance Ltd, 2016 Revs, XT bits etc.

Got the budget, just from Yorkshire so spending is against my religion! Looking for something that will do the job of the Lapierre but for more sensible money!!

Nothing! Thats the stupidity of the scenario, I just want something newer that will flatter my limited riding abilities
the enduro has done Gisburn, Dalby, Hamsterly and all the local lanes with aplomb. Its even got some nice bits ; titanium rail wtb saddle, dmr v8's, thomson seatpost, raceface chainrings, hope seatclamp, superstar lock on grips.
The GT's never let me down either and I've had that since new!!
I've just got shiny bike envy!!!!!!!!!!!

So if you want a new bike, buy a new bike.

Sell the avalanche and put money into the Enduro.

Or just get the enduro serviced and update it a bit.

Where to I do start with updating/modifying the Enduro then??

Suppose a quick spec would be a good starting point; 2002 Specialized Enduro Comp, 130mm travel Marzocchi Forks poss mxc?, Fox rear shock, Raceface chainrings, XT front and rear mech,Raceface Deuce headset, Hope qr seatclamp, Superstar lock on grips, Titanium rail WTB Rocket V saddle, Kenda Nevegal Tomac edition tyres.

Can i run more travel, lighten, just generally spec up and update or do I go lookng elsewhere??

Not as plush as I would like really, think a suspension service may sort some of this but I don't know where the Marzocchi's can be serviced and if it's even worth it or better change to a Fox or Rockshox, would like a bit more travel and concerns me the bikes not upto the alps which myslf and friends are looking do next year?!

I wouldn't buy a second hand Lappierre, you will loose too much cash when it snaps. A used Giant Trance or Specialized Stumpjumper will be better value and last forever and both are better bikes than the Lappierre.
