Tyres should I put on................

Postby Team4Luke » Wed Jan 16, 2013 17:33 pm

My training bike normally wears Michelin PR3, last year currently replaced them with Schwalbe Ultremo ZX, I actually like these better than michelin, seem more comfy although was hoping they would last a bit longer than then ever increasingly faster wear rate of Michelins every new version that appears.
I got some Michelin PR4 Endurance to replace on my winter bike which currently has Kryllions but not quite yet worn out, great tyres these.
So, seeing as the new PR4 Endurance are supposed be even better than Kryllions, then am thinking use the PR4 on training bike and probably use less sets than old PR3 or schwalbes and save a few quid.
Roads I train on are shocking and seem to go through tyres much quicker these days.

Go for ones that look cool and that you like. So long as they are decent tyres you'll be happy. If they look cool, to you, then you'll be even happier. If you want super gnarly tyres for rubbish roads get Vittoria Open Pave, and good luck getting them on and off again!

Look no further for training tyres, these are what Rapha Condor use for training and last and last and don't cut like yours. Forget looks the Pros don't use fancy coloured tyres and anyway 5 minutes down the road in the UK and their covered in shyte anyway which shows up more on coloured tyres..... http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/32093570 ... pla&crdt=0

Not a pro so I'm not too bothered and stopped caring. Usually buy what's on offer, and after using Schwalbes, Michelins and Vittorias, I can honestly say they've all been top class. Only bad tyres I've ever had were the crappy ones that came as stock with the bikes when new. I think that so long as you buy a decent quality tyre, no matter what people's personal preferences are, then they'll be pretty decent. So that's why I say get something you like the look of.

that be the schwalbe then as they have huge coloured writing

I'll have a look at the pave, never really used any modern Vittorias.

never felt safe on Conti, so never use them, only one I use is the Supersonic on TT bike which is awsome and feel safe with that but don't fancy any for road bike.

Rapha Condor who also use these tyres for training do when they are here and not down under.

It can snow in the winter where Wiggo was training and as you can see by the way he dresses it far from warm.

I use Pro4 Endurance when I am here.... Image

Also using your own argument all you need is a set of Ambrosio Excellight Handbuilts (with a Wiggo Sticker) and not fancy carbon deep section wheels.

I have the wheels just need the sticker 8)

It's not about the wheels it's about my journey back with tyres :D
