Scott Foil - which one?

Postby Gabbo » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:56 am

I've noticed there are a few different versions of this bike, including the aero premium (which I assume is the most expensive one), Foil 10, Foil 15, and Foil 20

Not sure whether there are any more versions, but the advice I am seeking is which one is the lightest, stiffest, and generally the best out of the lot?

Scott Foil Aero 20 frameset is £1299 online at Westbrook cycles. Not sure whether this is good value or not, so I'm calling out the experts!

The Premium, Team, and 10 all use the HMX carbon frameset which is the lightest whereas the others use HMF carbon so are around 100 grams heavier. Stiffness is the same on both framesets. Other than that the difference between models is the groupset and equipment. The Foil 15 is a Di2 specific frameset (as is the Premium) and are not compatible with standard groupsets without modification (and vice-versa as a 10 or 20 isn't Di2 compatible without drilling).

The frame in question on Westbrook is a the 2012 with the matte finish which is actually only about 60 grams heavier than the painted HMX frames and is a bargain at that price. The Foil is one of my favorite framesets and builds up incredibly light (both of mine are sub 7kg with clinchers).
