Front mech compatability

Postby thebadgerboy1982 » Sun Feb 03, 2013 17:20 pm

Hi all,
I have a cannondale supersix with full sram apex. The front mech is awful and struggles severely with shifting under any sort of load.
There are some great deals on duraace front mechs, does anyone know if my sram apex shifters are compatible with a duraace 10 speed mech?
Sounds like a stupid q but my mountain bike has sram shifters with an slx front mech!

Cheers Ross

No they are not.

You can't mix sram/shimano shifters with other branded mechs.

I use a shimano front mech on my bike with sram shifters. It works really well!

I think - from remembering reading on here - that you can use non SRAM FDs but not RDs with SRAM shifters. The issue is the cable pull ratio is different - try searching though as I am not 100% sure.

you will have issues with trimming and changing up and down etc. the shimano and sram have different cage width and spring tension etc. you will probably find you can set it up to go into a gear but soon after maybe 3/4 gears up or down you will end up with chain rubbing. if you eliminate chain rubbing you will end up with shifting issues.

i think you apex may not have been set up probably. get it down to the LBS and get them spend 5min on it before you dish out £40
