Cinelli Saetta Bar Width NEED HELP

Postby solboy10 » Sun Jan 20, 2013 07:35 am

Hi

I got a large Cinelli Saetta recently and it came with 42cm wide bars. I like my bars to be wider so recently ordered a new set of Cinelli Vai bars in 44cm width. These are the same make and model bars that came on the bike just one size up - or so i thought!.

When the new bars arrived they were a slightly different shape on the drops and had different graphics so assume these are a new version. Anyway the new "larger" bars are the same size as the original bars apart from the measeurement at the end of the drops which is 44cm c to c but the dimensions on the tops and hoods is actually narrower! So the bars measure about 41cm c to c on the top and 44 cm c to c on the drops.

To cut a long story short can anyone either recommned a 44cm bar that actually measures 44cm on the top of the bars c to c or does anyone have a Seatta size XL that they could measure the bar dims for me? Assuning the Xl version came with 44cm bars.

Random reply to oldish thread but came up in search and I am going through similar issues!

I also have a Cinelli Saetta. I was fiddling around with a tape measure trying to match the setups between the Cinelli and my Genesis and got very confused about the bar reach on the Cinelli Vai bars that came on the Saetta.

If you search for Cinelli Vai bars on Wiggle/Ribble or similar, they say they are very compact - eg reach about 72mm, drop 128mm.

However, the ones on my Saetta are nothing of the sort - they measure about 90mm reach and a 140 something drop despite being labelled Vai.

Anyway, I found this - http://www.cinelli.it/EN/bici/geom_curve/index.html

There are loads of Vai bars with different geometries - from the measurements off my bike and the table in the link I think the Saetta comes with 'Vai Oversize', drop 142 reach 92.

So - I think you want them! These may or may not be the same as Vai XL, which Wiggle claims have a 72mm reach

I want some shallower ones, I am going to just have to order some from Wiggle and see what turns up, its all too confusing to work out whats what....

Thats what i did in the end. Get these from Wiggle as they are the compact bars and the width is measured c to c. i have some 44cms on my bike now and its all sorted!

Cheers, so which one are these off that link I posted - http://www.cinelli.it/EN/bici/geom_curve/index.html

Ignoring the name, based on the Wiggle description they are Vai PPA (125 drop, 72 reach) - does that seem right?

Confusing.

Anyway, assuming I can find the right ones it should allow me to bump up a stem size which would be good, using a 90 at the mo, plus get at the drops easier.
