garmin wheel magnet lost - help

Postby redvision » Sat Jan 05, 2013 14:47 pm

so went out for a couple of hours today and about 40mins in my speed suddenly disappeared. Immediately realised what must have happened and stopped. No wheel magnet :( walked back about 50m and there it was lying on the road, but the plastic thing which holds it was snapped in half (perfectly in half). Puzzled how this had happened. Cant figure it out. Have same garmin speed cadence sensor on my race bike and never had an issue.
Only got the thing at xmas

have tried garmin support but they are only open weekdays.

so question is, is it worth sending back for replacement?
or will any wheel magnet work??
(like this one http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-computer-wheel-magnet/)

thanks

Of course any magnet will work, as long as it fits your spokes.

Or just use the GPS for speed?

Alternatively, you could probably just araldite the magnet to your spoke.

a magnet is a magnet is a magnet, buy a cheap spare clip from a computer. Some like VDO and Sigma sell the spoke magnet bits separately.

I bought a load of rare earth magnets off ebay after the magnet that came with my Garmin Edge 500 fell off. They are extremely powerful and only cost around £2.00 delivered (I think I got 10 or so for my money). Ideal replacements for the Garmin one.

^^^ this

i use 5x5x2mm rare earth magnets for spokes, you get loads for a couple of quid on ebay

use superglue *gel* to fix to a spoke, as long as you degrease magnet and spoke properly it'll stay put a long long time
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
