Pass on the family holiday and face divorce if necessary...

Parcours for the sportive to be released soon. Organisers say it'll stick closer to the pro route than last year's did.

Next year, do what I did, and combine it with a family holiday! Mrs Rats is looking forward to a lovely shopping weekend in Bruges, Boy Rat gets to see Boonen, and Girl Rat will be bored and moan a lot I imagine. :D

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Let me know if you work that out GSK, I am doing the same thing this year, have car with me and will be driving from Ghent to Oudenaarde for the start of the 140k sportive.

Really looking forward to it, first time doing the RVV Sportive and the route looks great. Think they have over 14,0000 entries so far so should sell out at 16,000.

Can anyone who's ridden this before remember if they used their top gears much? I was about to put a compact chainset on but decided against it due to cost. I'm now thinking of a 13-29 cassette (campag) just for this ride but id have no top end. I currently have 39/53 and 11-25 and am worried about getting up soggy cobbles.

In 2010 I only used my top gears - I should add that I have a triple - after the Bosberg, for the run in to Ninove. Different end to the route this time of course...

The triple's smallest gears were useful for spinning up the asphalt climbs like Berendries but slightly bigger ones required for the cobbled hills.

Two weeks to go: how's everyone's training coming on? Weather has hampered mine but should hopefully be ready (touches large piece of wood)

Can't wait!

Been out for longish rides most weekends throughout the winter (1300km since Xmas) so reasonably happy with my condition at the moment. But I've never ridden on cobbles so I'm debating whether I should take my CX bike with 28mm slicks or my Madone on 23mm GP4000's. I'm a big bloke and I break spokes every so often and don't want a broken spoke to spoil my day.

I'm hanging around for the pro race on Sunday - any ideas on where might be a good spot to watch? We're camping at Oudenaarde.

Is there a GPX file I can download for the 133km route anywhere?

So, it's coming soon...Any final tips?

I'm riding it with two of my kids and looking forward to a day out on the bikes. Does anyone know if there is a cutoff at all on the timing at the finish?

Any words of wisdom on watching the pros?

I signed up too, despite many warnings about overcrowding. I just wanted to ask those who have ridden it before whether you saw any helmetless participants.

If there were, there weren't many. In previous years, insurance for the event was rendered null & void without a helmet, but I can't see anything to that effect on this year's site.

As for cutoff times, see http://sport.be.msn.com/rondevanvlaanderen/2013/eng//praktischeinfo/algemeen/start/

The Dutch- and French-language instructions say "no helmet, no insurance" but the English ones don't. This is very common, but when you ask to see the terms of the insurance policy they refuse to show them to you because there is no such clause. I just wanted to know if I would be harrassed by the organisers over choice of headgear.

Likewise the long route! Anyone seen it released?

Also, can I just download Belgium OSM onto my Garmin, and have it there alongside my UK maps?

For the 80km:

I did it myself and there might be some errors in there, as the instructions weren't always clear. If we find ourselves both stuck in a farmers field somewhere please be kind 8)

I received the participant's pack in the post yesterday. Rule 7 stipulates that every participant must take out third-party and personal injury insurance. I'm a member of Vlaamse Wielrijdersbond but still haven't received my membership card, which I believe is proof of insurance cover as well. How have you sorted out your insurance?

I got my info by email and it doesn't mention insurance. I'm hoping that my BC memebrship will cover me. If not perhaps it can be purchased at registration? Will you be prevented from riding without evidence of cover?

Edit: Just seen this on their website - it mentions free insurance in the participation package (which I presume we get at registration) http://sport.be.msn.com/rondevanvlaande ... amepakket/

Free insurance for forrins like me.

Probably need to take out insurance if you're Belgian.

I'm forrin too, just happen to live in Belgium. Where does it say that the admission fee includes insurance?
