THE Boardman Team.

Postby Stoo61 » Sun Jan 30, 2011 22:29 pm

Bought brand new in 2009 and I’ve put a fair amount of money into it, upgraded when I thought it warranted it and made some aesthetic changes, which I really like. It remains subtle.

Upgrades are detailed in spec in bold. Rear mech remains the same as I’ve had it off and cleaned it up, its plenty good enough. Would only replace with another X9 anyway. Replaced the middle and bottom chain rings as they were badly worn. The GXP bottom bracket was ruined so was replaced with the same but a new version which I’m reliably informed is better sealed and essentially an upgrade. Brakes have been bled, realigned and are as good as new. The wheels are lighter than stock, although this was not my reason for buying. They are nice wheels and a decent price, giving the tyres a nice profile, I find it is more planted on the descents. Forks have had decals replaced to match frame but haven’t been touched internally and are still beautifully plush. All Ready for my Scottish Coast to Coast in May :D

I know, while people usually admit the bang for buck is unbeatable, that most people will think Boardmans are pretty boring but I’d like to know what people think of mine. Cheers. :)

Cheers! :D

Well ive only been out n thrashed them once at Glentress, I noticed the difference. They seemed to help with the descents and helped the tyres grip better on the ups. I went with Flows because the weight over strength difference didnt bother me. I wanted the strongest possible and theres only a few grams in it, great price too.

very nice bike but.....im guessing you got the fork stickers from graphicshack(?) as the left hand leg is the wrong way round, i had to cut mine just above the rockshox logo n turn it round to get it to look right (i then firtted it wonky  )

Well i definitely put the left leg on further forward than I wanted to.

I'm not going to mess with it though.

Feel I need to justify these..not bought for RRP but on Ebay for a lot cheaper. Good find though I think.

I've got an 08 HT Pro, so the same colour as yours, but yours looks a lot neater than mine! nice job!

So, the frame cracked at the chainstay 2 months after the warranty ran out so I got it replaced and added a wee "tattoo" to both inner sides of the chainstays. (Replaced my name exactly the same too)

"And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin’ on like a bird that flew
Tangled up in blue"

Its my favourite song and thought it worked well as its now my lightweight racey bike, when you are shattered you just gotta keep on keepin' on...

Really nice and good to see upgrades being done for the right reasons. See too many bikes being upgraded before they've even seen any dirt! Nice song reference too!

Flows are an odd choice. Crests would've been more appropriate I'd have thought.

I took time over that choice. Figured that any bit of strength advantage was better over weight loss, I wasn't trying to build a light bike...it just is reletively light.

I'm enjoying them anyway :D

Presumably as you're using Fire XC Pros you're running tubes too, missing a trick with those wheels. Get yourself some lighter tyres and go tubeless, you'll see a big improvement.

Perhaps in the future but i'm really confident with the Pana's and rookit at the moment. Cheers for the advice though :)
