I think that for most people over 40 years old the only surprise is that people are surprised.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Sounds 'consensual' to me, and -lets face it- she eventually wound up as a Playboy bunny girl.

"Sounds 'consensual' to me" rather sums up how 'Sir Jimmy' could last so long. If you are 15 you cannot give consent. It is criminal behaviour and the adult is responsible.

What about Mandy Smith and Bill Wyman then?
That was consensual, and she was 14.
Don't recall Wyman getting nicked for it.
And don't compare Peel with Savile either. fool.

I don't think confused@BR was comparing Peel with Savile, merely stating, quite correctly, that a 15 year old girl cannot give 'consent' in the eyes of the law. That's why we call 16 years old the 'Age of Consent'.

Attitudes to this type of thing have, thankfully, changed radically over the past twenty years or so. I suspect there would be a different reaction to the Wyman/Mandy Smith thing today, rather than the 'Tut - Dirty old man!' tabloid smirking of the eighties.

A very good friend of mine heard about his "activites" over 40 years ago when he worked for the BBC, he had no direct contact or proof of what was going on, but it was known about, (apparently) nothing was done as it was supposedly said by JS, "it would mean the end of any fund raising for Stoke Mandeville and other places."

Over 40 accusations but not a single one raised when he was alive. Watsallthaaboot?

I'm not saying he did or didn't do it; but why was nothing raised by the victims when he was alive? Seems odd..

Thats a valid point.

When watching the ITV documentary, what I found odd was how did the "victims" ended up being there in the first place? In an unlocked dressing room or even ending up at a hotel? What was to stop them from walking off?

It's about emotional blackmail aimed at vulnerable young girls
E.g. "no one will believe you" "he raises millions for charity and you'll end that fundraising" etc etc
With physical abuse there's usually psychological/emotional abuse.
That's probably why he (and others) got/get away with it.

Although I think she acts a bit holier-than-thou, Esther Ranzen outlined the ironical hypocracy in all this. She basically said that it was the media that covered it up by holding Saville in high regard. The media knew what was going on and now its the media who are playing it out in all its vicarious glory.

I understand the premise (and totally agree with most of it) however that theory would be predicated on all the alleged victims keeping quiet for the quoted reasons. I believe the toll is past 60 now and I find it strange that all 60 would remain unanimously silent. I totally agree with the psychological factors and I'm in no way qualified to comment on the particulars. Surely some of the individuals would have come forward regardless of extenuating curcumstances; JS was out of the lime light for quite some years..

Will it turn out to be another MJ scenario?

People did come forwards - but either the people they told didn't want to know, the police investigations went nowhere or the newspapers decided not to publish.
