3T ErgoNova Bars

Postby gloomyandy » Wed Nov 07, 2012 20:35 pm

Hi,
could anyone that has a set of the 3T ErgoNova bars help please? I've been trying to find out the width of these bars measured at the drops and the hoods. Are they the same or do the drops flare outwards like the FSA compacts do. So for instance with the compacts a size of 42 is 42cm when measured at the end of the drops, but is only actually 40cm when measured where the hoods will be.

Thanks

Andy

You're correct. I normally use 42 bars but need a 44 ergonova.

Yep, they are narrower at the hoods than the drops, but to be honest, you probably won't notice the difference.

Hi Folks,
thanks for the info. If you get chance could you measure your bar and post the actual measured sizes and the specified size of the bar. I would ideally like to have the spacing at the hoods be 40cm and I'm not sure if I need a 40 or 42 bar. I have a dodgy shoulder and it seems that the width of the bar has a big impact on how long I can ride for before the pain gets really bad. The ErgoNova bars is relatively expensive so I'd like to get it right!

Many thanks again

Andy

Sold as 42cm width, mine have the following measurements:

Hoods: 40cm C-C
Drops: 42cm C-C (at the very end of the bar - they angle outwards slightly)

If you're after Carbon then these Zipp ones are a good alternative, not quite so short in the reach as the Erogonovas, still flat on the top... (measured outside to outside so compared to most bars you go up a size)

Something of a thread ressurection, but was wondering if anyone on here who has these bars could help, did you get a chance to try before you bought? Would you say they make a big improvement on comfort?

Thanks

I did! I had to swap from 42's to 44's eventually, now spot on for size.

Cracking bars for all day comfort. Too much flex for sprinters and gorillas perhaps, but otherwise perfect!

I had a bike fitting and they recommended some narrower bars. Mine originally came 44cm bars, they measured me up as ideally needing 41  Opted for the 42cm version of these (what 3T claim to be 44). I won't claim it has transformed my ride, but it definitely makes a difference on longer rides. The flat top section seems to spread the weight a bit more evenly across the palms, which makes it more comfortable to ride on the tops for longer, which takes some of the weight off the shoulders/upper back.
My first ride after getting them was a hilly 105 miles (the Black Rat sportive) earlier this year, after having spent the majority of the winter/early spring riding more more than 40-50 miles at a time. No aches or pains in the shoulders by the end, just a shame about the legs!

The 44 cm Ergonova is 42.5 cm at the hoods, the 42 cm is 40.5 cm at the hoods
I have the 44 cm, the flare of 0.75 cm is not noticeable, but for me is very comfortable
The Specialized shallow drop bar is similar without the flare.
