Bike-Discount.de........2 days for 105 5700 Shifters !!

Postby Raffles » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:45 am

I ordered a brand new set of Shimano 105 5700 2x10 shifters from bike-discount.de in germany just 2 days ago . I selected DHL as the delivery courier which cost just £6.61 and the total cost was £30 cheaper than the equivalent UK seller.........................and didnt I get a knock at the door and a parcel I had to sign for this morning  :D

Well.......................blow me down , is that service or what !! UK sellers could learn so very much. Bike -discount.de were highly recommended to me by members here at BR and im recommending them to anybody considering buying bike components ................A* just wonderful, and now Im waiting on a Deda RS01 seatpost and Bartape to arrive from Wiggle and a 105 5701 10 speed chain and 105 5700 10 speed cassette to arrive from CRC based in the UK

Agreed. I ordered my cycling shoes from them a few months back. I received them within three working days, and paid 80% of what they cost in the UK. A colleague at work also used them a few weeks back for some new tyres and paid roughly around 60% of the cost he would get them for in the UK.

I know I’ve said it before, but MHW Bike are also very good.

When you look at their prices and excellent customer service it’s no wonder the German economy is doing so well.

And what a great way to boost the German economy too!

I have to admit to having used a German supplier on a couple of occasions - once to buy a Marathon Winter when UK was out of stock and once to buy a brake set for my MTB. I regret the latter now and the chain set I need will be sourced from a UK supplier. It'll cost me a tenner extra probably but the price is still good and ultimately, if you don't look after yourself, no-one will do it for you.

I buy a lot of electonic components from the USA and quite often the delivery is as quick, if not quicker than companies in the UK. Frustrating really.

Are you talking about the 2x10 silver pair (£137.77)? They're available at CRC for £149.99, so by the time you've added on your £6.61 postage, you're only really saving £5. Or did you get them for cheaper than this?

Not trying to rain on your parade, just interested because i'm looking for a pair myself!

In the UK we are used to asking a yawning disinterested member of staff about a product, have him fart as he turns away to kill himself going to get it and is it any wonder that we choose to buy outside of GB where we get better prices plus knowledgable staff and far quicker delivery.

True, but it's a big world out there you know. If (in the case of my bike) a UK supplier doesn't have what I want in stock, I look elsewhere. Simple.

I've also made the mistake of buying things from overseas before and regretted it due to the law of diminishing returns on extra postage costs + time if something goes wrong, but that's the risk you take I guess. Plus, I've been in countless shops (bike or not) before where owners, managers etc don't give a two hoots about answering your questions, and when they do make you feel like they are doing you a favour.

If you like many want to stay with an electricity supplier, mobile phone company etc that charges more just because they have a 'good' name, then more power to you. I on the other hand look elsewhere.

Couldn't agree with you more - but that's a slightly different issue. And there can't be that many things (whole bikes aside) that are entirely unavailable over here.

Bought an SLX front mech for my MTB on Monday, as I couldn't seem to source one anywhere in the uk as it was a reasonably specialist fitting I needed. Arrived yesterday, and cheapest I could find. I would certainly use again, although returns could prove expensive...
Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Tifosi CK7 - Pinnacle Arkose Singlespeed "monster cross" - Spesh Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...

I received my first order from them today as well. A trelock 950 ls front light. I'm currently sitting waiting for it to charge.

I took the cheapest carriage deal, £4.95 from DPD. The best UK deal I could find was over £100 and I got it for £75 including costs. Ordered at 19.11 on Tuesday night and it arrived this afternoon. That's really good going for Aberdeen, the only UK online shop which has beat it is Merlin. If they had stocked it I would probably have stuck with them.

My son used to land in fights with Amazon regularly because he would pay for next day delivery and it wouldn't arrive, so he would ask for the carriage costs back.

Another fan of German online dealers of bike components. They come in cheaper, show clearly what they have in stock, delivery is fast, and backup service is quick and courteous.

Bike-discount.de is great, as mentioned. I can also highly recommend bike24.de. Although they show pricing only in Euro, they have broader and deeper stock for many item types. I've recently bought everything except the frame for my new build from these two suppliers, including a full set of tools for the home workshop. Every shipment was on time, separate orders were shipped together when requested, and communication was uniformly swift. When a low stock item had sold out over a weekend (bike24.de in that case), a genuinely comparable alternative was offered at a significant discount to compensate for the inconvenience.

Both these are model online retailers in my experience. They win by big margins on both price and service.

I wouldn't normally be lured by a small reduction on price, but as Tune products are hard to come by in the UK, I've put an order in :)
