Here's a question, upgrades and hub gears.

If I was to perhaps purchase a single speed bike for the girlfriend, would I later be able to switch the back freewheel hub with something like a shimano hub gear?

Specifically thinking about buying a genesis day one disc and next year installing the bits to make it essentially a day one alfine 8 but with better brakes and lots of spare cash..

Am I sane or completely ill-advised? Frames look completely identical to me

Yes, I believe the frames both have 135 mm rear spacing, which is the bottleneck, as that's the size of an alfine hub.
once you are 100% sure of that, I don't see major obstacles to your project

I have the day one disc and when I bought it they said I could do that - the frames look the same and mine has all the bosses for attaching the cabling etc.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies.

I was curious about the cables too so that's great,
