West Kent RC Reliability Trial Sunday 6 Jan 2013

Postby colinsmith123 » Wed Dec 26, 2012 17:51 pm

Once again the West Kent Road Club are holding their annual reliability trial, raising funds for two charities, the Kent Air Ambulance and the Dave Rayner Fund. This event

This event kicks off the 2013 reliability trial and sportive season in the south east and is always well supported by local club and sportive riders alike. You can choose between two routes; 30 and 50 miles around some of the best countryside the North Downs has to offer.

Entry is just £5 on the line. First riders off at around 09.00Hrs. Last riders off around 09.30Hrs. The route is fully signposted and marshalled at key points. With ample catering facilities at the HQ.

Please see the comments on this event from last year http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40007&t=12828648&p=17383770&hilit=west+kent#p17383770

I'd love to do this but alas my car is on the blink at the moment. Don't suppose anyone is going to this from the Medway area that wouldn't mind giving me a lift? I'd happily pay petrol money.

If you are not able to arrange a lift, you could jump on the train at Rochester at 08.05 on Sunday. The train arrives at Farningham Road at 08.27. It's then a 5 minute ride to the start. Trains back to Rochester are every hour at .59 minutes past. Hope this helps.

See you there!

Thanks, just seen how close Farningham Road station is, I'll be there in that case. Looking forward to it. Looks like it descends Ide Hill rather than climbs it, does this mean it will ascend Toys Hill? Hope so, that will burn off the turkey!

I don't think we climb Toys from either side, Carters Hill (or one tree to the locals) looks to be the climb of the day.

Just a note to say a very well organised and fun reliability trial, well done West Kent RC.
The longer route was shortened to c80km from c90km, but I wasn't too disappointed at missing out on the extra 10km after reaching carters hill! The 80km route still had >1,000m of climbing (according to my Garmin) which helped put a dent in shifting the Christmas turkey. In my opinion, the areas around Sevenoaks and the weald are some of the finest in Kent for riding, offering some challenging climbs, fast descents and superb scenery for the flat stuff.
Signage was ok and the pre-event route information was sufficient to get by. Post event cake and coffee was welcomed, and all for a fiver going to great local charitable causes. Events like this just fly in the face of £35 sportives!
Good to see so many riders from south east clubs out too. I'll try to drag more Wigmore riders along next year.
Well done chaps
