Canyon, is there anything else for the money?!

Postby Paul 8v » Mon Jan 07, 2013 14:08 pm

I'm looking at getting a road bike in the next month or so, at the moment I have my heart set on a Canyon Ultimate CF with Athena. I can't seem to find anything else that ticks all the boxes for that money (£1,639.00)

Criteria are it must be a Carbon frame and Campagnolo, everything in that price range I've seen is either Shimano or SRAM, and whilst there's nothing wrong with either it has to be Campagnolo for me.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

No, there's nothing else for the money. I ordered the Ultegra version on Friday. :)

You may be able to get a deal on a 2012 Bianchi or Wilier although it's more likely to be 10 speed Campag. Was in my LBS today and they had a beautiful White/Celeste Bianchi Sempre reduced from 1800 to 1300. A 2012 Bianchi Infinito with Veloce may fall in budget as well. The Canyon is probably objectively a "better" bike though (lighter, higher tech, better wheels).

Here you go...

But Veloce is worse than Athena but this way you get a proper bike fitting too. Ignore if you're other end of the country!

That's a bit of a way from me but not too bad, I've heard good things about the Canyon bike online fitting thing but it probably doesn't compare to a proper bike fit. I'd love a Bianchi but it seems to be a bit of a worse spec, if it was an 11speed gruppo it wouldn't be too bad as you could just upgrade it but if I wanted to upgrade at a later date 10 speed is a pain.

Yep - it's spec is consierably worse but I've heard people have good experiences with the Epic service and fitting.

It's a trade off between personalised service and really good value spec on the Canyon. I'd say get the Canyon if you know what kind of geometry you want, get something with a fitting service and the ability to try before you buy if you're not sure.
