Good 28mm tyre for winter commuting?

Postby wilo13 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 05:37 am

In the market for a 28mm road tyre. So far I have considered: Vittoria Rubino Pro tech, Conti 4season and Schwalbe Durano. Any other good options? Recommendations?

I've used Conti Gatorskins and Schwalbe Durano in 28mm and both have been a pretty good choice. I've much more experience with the Gators than the Duranos but my initial thoughts are that the Duranos are slightly better as a commuting tyre but it is close and you'd probably be fine with either. With both, however, you need to inspect them periodically for flint shards and remove them before they cause a pun***re.

I am edging towards the Rubino Pros but I saw a review which said they are not great in the wet. Also the Durano set are a fair bit cheaper. Maybe I should toss a coin to decide?
