bar mitts?

Postby cenkee » Thu Jan 10, 2013 09:35 am

I was browsing for a good pair of winter gloves then I stumbled upon this.
I know they are used on motorcycles but never heard of them being used for road bikes before. Anyone here used them ?

edit: found these after some googling ... protection

I know they're used in some of the extreme winter races/events like Iditabike but can't see the point (in the UK at least). There's plenty of gloves out there that work to 0c (and a bit less), usually you just need to pair them with silk or merino liner gloves. I stay off the roads once it gets below 0 as the risk of ice is too much. Those bar things also look pretty dangerous to me (unless you're riding slowly through soft snow for hours), I'm pretty sure I'd accidentally catch them from time to time (getting stuff out of pockets etc.) and you'd risk a crash then.

Bar Mitts are brilliant. Bought a set of mtb and road back from Interbike last year and they're far warmer than any glove I've ever tried. Been riding with 'hot enough to be sweaty' bare hands even with ice stuck on the outside of them. Never had any problem whipping hands off the bars in a crash or catching them accidentally either as they're only floppy neoprene. Was wearing them today and will be wearing them again tomorrow probably!

If you are Jewish you could get some made of animal hide and then you would have bar mitts fur
