upgrade advice?

Postby johnny100 » Sun Jan 13, 2013 19:25 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but have been road cycling now for about 18months and have got the bug. I've really enjoyed doing sportives and also sprint triathlons and and already looking to upgrade my bike.

Im currently riding a feltZ100 which although I dont have anything to compare it with I've got on fine and it has been a great intro bike.

But I've been thinking about upgrading as I want to start pushing it a bit more this year and have a budget of about £1500.00. With this budget what do people think with regards to buying second hand against new?

For example i've seen someone locally who is selling a 2008/09 Trek Madone 6.5ssl for £1300 in good condition(the seller said its done about 1500 miles) Doing some research this looks like a lot more bike than I could get with the same money buying new but I don't really know enough at the minute to be sure if thats a good deal or not? what do others think? Would I be better off avoiding the second hand market and sticking to the advice of my local bike shop?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong going second hand in principle and as long as you know what your looking at you can certainly get a lot of bike for £1500 that way.
