Where do you put your keys??

Postby saprkzz » Mon Feb 04, 2013 17:34 pm

Yes it sounds like a topic for the Beginners section, but I am not a beginner and need to know what others do.

I ride with mininal equipment,

1st pocket on jersey
2 x Tubes
2 x tyre levers
Mini Pump

2nd Pocket
Phone (with money in wiggle case)
Keys

3rd Pocket
Food

Now, i lost my pump from the pocket a couple of weeks ago, didnt realize until i got home. So have bought another that clamps to the bottle cage, so for training bike this is ok, but hate putting my phone and keys in the middle pocket as i am worried they will drop out.

I started using a zipped pouch, but this is uncomfortable and looks like I have a tumor sticking out from my ass!

So what do all you Lycra clad people do with them? Loose? or am I not thinking properly?

cheers

Where is your Allen key / multitool thing ?
I have a lezyne toolbag and I put those things and cash and keys in them together.
No chance of anything falling out then. I'd not put my phone and keys in the same pocket - scratching or breaking ?

I put it in one of those little bags that goes on the frame. This one, in fact, but the rain cover version:

I got an extra door key cut, so only take that out. I'll keep it in a zipped pouch, loose in a zipped pocket, or in the saddle bag, depending on which bike/jersey.
Saves carrying about a bunch of keys when I'll only need one.

Everything i take with me goes in my jersey pockets...

The very sight of a saddle bag makes me want to kill.

My tubes, tools, keys etc, all go in my second water bottle. I only use one for water.

There seems to be a very odd attitude to saddle bags, I use one as it fits all the essentials I carry on the bike. I could carry it in jersey pockets, but I am sure I would forget something.

Pocket 1 - food, spare electrolyte tablets if out on a long ride
Pocket 2 - Co2 inflator with 2 spare Co2 cartridges, puncture repair kit, spare tube, tyre levers all in a (small) Rapha essentials case
Pocket 3 - Mobile phone, cash, keys in another (small) Rapha essentials case

On my winter bike I also have a mini pump that is attached to the bottle rack.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Middle pocket - Tools (2x C02, puncture kit, tyre levers and multitool)
Left Pocket - Phone, Keys, Bars
Right Pocket - Waterproof.

All held in foodbags with elastic bands.

Definitely no need for 2 tubes. I only carry one on longer rides - ParkTool self adhesive patch kit does the job.

I am not talking about asking if people hide them under the doormat

I not keen on a saddle bag, and i do long rides and will drink two water bottles in 2-3 hours
Maybe will just have to ensure jerseys i buy have a zip up pocket. I just thought there maybe something I am not seeing in the shops.

I used to only carry one tube, but after striking a pothole and blowing both tyres 10 miles from home, i now carry two :).. they are the ultra light conti ones, so they dont take up too much room

You can manage on one bottle for most rides, just fill up at a pub every 2 hours!

I put my keys into locks that need unlocking (or occasionally into cars that need starting)

Hope this helps
