Canyon speedmax 9.0 or Planet X Ecocet

Postby J555 » Fri Feb 22, 2013 23:19 pm

I've been weighing up a new bike purchase for months now as I only have a specialized allez. I took up riding last year as I started competing in sprint triathlons.

I was just looking to update my road bike with a boardman air but after time thinking I am going to fight myself a TT specific bike.

I have narrowed it down to the 2 above and would love to hear people's opinions and advice.

My aim I'd for a full carbon frame and the best componentry possible for 2.5k max.. The reason I'm limiting my budget is because I WILl be upgrading the old allez in the summer.

I am taking part in the oulton park duathlon in 17/3 and want the new bike in time for this with a good few practice rides.. Also will I find it hard switching to the TT cockpit from standard drops?

Thanks, James.

Errr... are you saying that you want to swap the cockpit from a TT bike to normal road drops? I sure hope not as it's an absolutely terrible idea. TT geometry is very different to that of a road bike and won't allow for any level of comfort in a standard road position. You're far better off getting an aero road frame (Boardman Air, Scott Foil, Cervelo S-Series, etc.) and using clip-ons.

If your question is simply related to position, then the TT position takes getting used to, but if you're only doing sprint distances then it's shouldn't be a problem.

Of the two bikes you're currently considering, I'd go Exocet 2 no question.

Hi and thanks for your reply. No I wasn't at all suggesting that haha. I was just asking how different/difficult it is to get used to?

I'm heading up to planet x in Rotherham tomorrow to check them out at planet x. No doubt I'll return lighter in the wallet ; )

Good to hear. I does take some getting used to, but not as long as you might think. If you end up buying from them be sure to go Exocet 2 (the original had a few minor issues like wheel clearence and seatpost slipping) and try to get them to throw in a Retul fit.

Thanks grill. I would need the bike fit today as I live a distance away. so that will need to be done local next week. The difference a fit made on my allez was incredible.

I'll see if I can get some pedals thrown in.
