Postby Marcryan206 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 19:59 pm

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got my bike serviced today at my lbs. I normally take it to a bigger chain shop and get it done there but after a few let downs I decided to go to lbs. iv been missing out the service and one to one with them is great! Will be going back for sure.

Big up to solent cycles!

Deffently up for supporting your lbs!!

I'm a big believer in supporting my LBS but crucially mine is a good one albeit small (the bike shop) that is.

It's a myth that LBS's are just trying to rip you off.

I find the more you buy the more money they discount?! And that's with looking around before I bought from them! Or is that just what I tell the misses.

Indeed. Normally perpetuated by folk on internet forums..oh hang on :D

My LBS has done several things free and has even refused to sell me something that was completely inappropiate for my needs, instead advising and selling something half the price.

LBS all the way. Recently had a bad experience with a chain store – never again. All that aside, there is generally more love and passion with the smaller guys. Definitely get what you pay for too.

I was looking for a new chain whip a few weeks ago, went into a big chain and they just presented me with all the ones they had ranging from less than £10 up to £40; in the LBS the service was more specific i.e. we had a conversation about my needs and which tool would fulfill those, guess which one I ended up with!

Reminded me of when I went into LBS for a water bottle, choice of two same price, High5 or LBS own brand with their logo phone no etc.

I said I did not mind, either would do,expecting to be given LBS own, so he gave me the High5 !! :? I hope their bike servicing is better than their marketing :)

Yep, i have been converted to LBS is best over the past few months, Winklebury Cycles in Basingstoke, cant do enough for you, offer a brew when you pop in and always happy to do a deal on the stuff.
My biggest fear is that should I crash, burn and die, my Wife would sell my stuff based upon what I told her I paid for it.

Unfortunately I have to buck the trend here guys, my local bike shop, what can I say, rude staff (not all of them), steep prices and unwilling to help. But there is a shop which is a part of a small chain of shops about 15 miles away from me who are absolutely great.

It goes both ways. I've had great service at the nationalised stores as well as the small ones. The small ones tend to want more of your money, for obvious reasons.

I always find smaller places to be more helpful. Just recently I was looking for the little serrated washers that go between the brake callipers and frame. I went all over the place from one flashy bike shop to the next but none of them could supply such a simple part. They'd be glad to sell me a shiny new bike though.

In the end I got sorted as a small shop round the corner - nothing flash but they did have what I needed. That will be my first stop in future.

Went to the LBS to get 2 new bottles and they gave me (for free) a Torq bar and gel for me to try out and give them feedback.
