Best Hardtail Frame Around £500 ??

Postby cameronb » Tue Apr 02, 2013 19:00 pm

I've moved closer to home with work and its now 5 miles there and back, a short road section and a towpath. Don't want to take my 'proper' bike so wanted to get a hardtail again as it's a pretty fun journey through the summer (should there be one).

Kicking myself because I sold my trek hardtail last year at a big loss but that's life I suppose ha. Looking at bikes new I really don't want to buy something complete as most of it would get swapped out, I'm probably going to use it a lot more than my full sus gets used so not really too bothered about paying a bit. I'm looking to keep the complete build under £1500. After a frame for around £500 that would take 120mm travel, if anyone's got any suggestions? Or a complete bike that would suit my budget if components are top end and not cheap cack. Cheers.

On One 456 Carbon full bike for £1200, and as you are from south yorkshire it'll be easy to get to the On One showroom.

The 456 is what I'm considering to be honest, may still just start from the frame up still. Never had a carbon bike before though, and I'm cautious to.

Carbon is tougher than alloy or steel, as well as lighter, what is there to be cautious about?

If I had the money I'd have a CF frame in the post tomorrow (Whippet thanks, in stealth black if your asking!)

I'd avoid the 456, personally I hate the damn thing.

I'd get the steel one and spend more on the wheels as the steel one rides a lot better.
