need new brake calipers

Postby stigonabike » Thu Apr 11, 2013 01:06 am

I have an old Ridgeback Genesis which is a hybrid style bike on road tyres. I have recently got a proper road bike so want to convert this into more of a cyclocross bike with wider tyres so I can ride it on the common with the kiddiwinks without the constant fdear of getting a puncture. Only problem is that the brake calipers are so close together they will only allow a 25mm tyre through the gap. Is it possible (and easy) to either a) adjust the width of them or b) change them to a wider set. If so, could I have some recommendations for a budget pair that would fit a 30mm wide tyre (i've been told I can get one this wide on my present rims)?

Not just the width you have to consider but the height of the tyre.

True. Thanks. I have already considered this, but there is plenty of clearance for a higher tyre. Is it possible to adjust the current ones or do I need to buy new calipers and if so what kind?
